QuickPup 20.06.3 released

Post by mistfire »

QuickPup 20.06.3 released

* More modular. browser (ADRV), media player (BDRV), and extras (YDRV) are now on separate SFS modules. System libraries, Desktop Environment, and System tools are only contained in the main SFS.

* Initrd can now handle two additional sfs modules. BDRV and XDRV.
* Improved sfs_load to handle BDRV and XDRV modules
* Fixed XDG problems
* Fixed missing perl modules for exo email handling
* Improved puppy remaster tool
* Improved Redmond-Delta theme for GTK+3
* Bugfix for builtin package tools (repack and remove)

Manually upgraded existing install to 20.06.3, including new auxiliary sfs's. All that I have run so far working well. A good choice to include seamonkey as the default browser in the adrive.

Well done. Thank you for your continued development.

Hi @mistfire

Reviewing this latest version of Quickpup (20.06.3), I find that it does not connect under any option ...

I started the connectionwizard and it only showed me the option to connect by phone and not wired / wireless LAN, thinking it was an error, I changed this script and although it was corrected by selecting frisbee as my internet manager, nothing happened. .

In the notification bar, the connection icon only shows that it is trying to connect but nothing happens

I think this happened only to me, maybe it's my pc or something like that, but this has never happened to me with your previous version ...

This is my quick review of this version and the only problem I found ...

For the rest that refers ... Excellent work

Cheers!!

QuickPup uses NetworkManager by default. Did you boot in pristine mode?

HI @mistfire

That's right, the installation is brand new ...
The weird thing is that with the previous version I didn't have this problem ...
I am going to make a comparison in the network manager setting and see what the difference is (I have the two installations separately, each one in its directory) and if there is a difference I will tell you ...
And don't worry, maybe I'm the only one with this

Cheers!!

QuickPup 20.06.4 released

Changes:
* Glibc 2.32
* PPM can now install zstd compressed red hat packages
* Added ability to handle GTK4
* Improved initrd.
* Improved icon theming. Default icon theme was renamed from papirus to papirus-lite. This will avoid conflicting with the upstream papirus and also papirus-lite can use the upstream papirus by just installing it.
* Added redshiftgui
* Some fixes

Download (32-bit only): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MStwip ... sp=sharing
MD5 Checksum: aa614ea184db0950f42e47be1ddbfaae

Known Issues:
If the savefile of QuickPup 20.06.3 or lower was loaded and the icon theme used is the default. The icon theme will be fallback due to renaming the default icon theme "papirus" to "papirus-lite". This can be fixed by re-applying the icon theme.
1. Go to Applications->Desktop->Settings Manager->Appearance.
2. Click Icons tab and select papirus-lite

Just saw that a 20.06.4 update was available. Updated existing install to the latest version. Applied the icon theme papirus-lite as mentioned. All so far working well. Thanks.

Hi @mistfire

I'm using your last release version by the way...

And Finally!! I found a solution to my connectivity problem, but it is not exactly a correction since I had to change the kernel to 5.0.1 and with this kernel my problem simply disappeared ... it works from installations from scratch ...
This is the info of my ethernet card with kernel 5.0.1
▶ —— Network Devices —— ◀
Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [10ec: 8136] (rev 02)
• Kernel Driver: r8169
• Memory Used: 68.00 KB
• Path: /lib/modules/5.0.1/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/realtek/r8169.ko
• Description: RealTek RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver
▶ —————————————— ◀

This driver is present in the original kernel although the connection is not maintained, it connects and disconnects in a loop

I hope this detail can be corrected in the kernel.

At the moment the network works without problems but Parole does not ...

Cheers !!

Puppy performs automatic upgrade if an old save file was loaded. Since the QuickPup 20.05 has tiny changes against QuickPup 20.04. There's no worry to load QuickPup 20.04 savefile on QuickPup 20.05

ibus Chinese input platform: ibus_1.5.7-en-zh-bionic-20.1.0.pet (34 mb)

scim Chinese input platform: scim_1.4.14-en-zh-bionic-20.1.0.pet (16 mb)

yong Chinese input platform: yong3264_20201122-en-zh-bionic-20.1.0.pet (8 mb)

Plus 2 Chinese language pets each for QuickPup 20.06.1 and 20.06.2:
Simplified Chinese:
quickpup-20.06.01-zhcn-20.1.0.pet (2 mb)
quickpup-20.06.02-zhcn-20.1.0.pet (2 mb)

Traditional Chinese:
quickpup-20.06.01-zhcn-20.1.0.pet (2 mb)
quickpup-20.06.02-zhcn-20.1.0.pet (2 mb)

To use:
(a) any 1 of the 4 half-Chinese language pets will enable you to display and input Chinese in QuickPup 20.06.1 and 20.06.2

(b) the name corresponding Chinese language pets will give you Simplified Chinese (use zhcn pet) or Traditional Chinese (us zhhk pet) menus, icon labels, tooltips for QuickPup 20.06.1 and 20.06.2. For the Chinese pets to work normally, you must install a suitable half-Chinese pet prior to install the Chinese pet.

@mistfire I downloaded the sfs since I'm curious how the Unifont looks and especially how it compares to DejaVu Sans. Except for Asian scripts DejaVu Sans already supports all major non-Latin scripts.

Strangely on my system Unifont doesn't look like a truetyp font at all, more like a bitmap font:

Upon searching unifont was bitmap font. Any ideas what non-bitmap font that can also view CJK characters?

I've made a manual frugal install of QuickPup 20.06.6. I booted up, made some setup changes, including wifi, and made a save folder. When I rebooted every thing worked as expected except wifi which did not connect automatically. I right clicked the tray wifi icon and my ssid appeared. On clicking this my wifi connected and stayed connected for the session. I have tried this a number of times and get the same result. I would have expected it to autoconnect. Am I doing something wrong? Also I can report that mikewalsh's portable version of Palemoon (v29.0.1) works on QuickPup as does Iron portable giving other browser options, which can be kept updated, on this 32bit pup.

Ken.

To anyone

Before I setup to test in a QEMU-KVM, I ask, is SAMBA built-in?

Yes and no. I just started a qemu vm and opened the file manager. There is a browser network function but it can't find any samba shares on the LAN. So, I conclude that samba browsing isn't functional. Can it still connect to a samba share, if you know the share's address? I think so. Type smb://10.0.2.4/qemu in file manager's navigation bar and a password entry dialog pops up. Enter no password, press OK for an anonymous login and... success! The host's filesystem opens. That 10.0.2.4 is the qemu builtin share. What about a real share on a real network node? This works: 1) start samba service on the host (I use fatdog); 2) type smb://10.0.2.2 in the guest's file manager's navigation bar... success! It shows fatdog's shares. Click a share, answer the password prompt, anonymous login, all working. Final test: can it connect to a samba share that isn't on the host? I don't know. I tried connecting to my home router's share but it didn't work. I didn't investigate why.

Edit: I also didn't test whether QuickPup can share its folders as a samba server but I see that @mistfire has already addressed this point in the post below.

Yes it is, QuickPup has samba.

To manage samba, go to Applications>Simple File Sharing Setup or go to Applications>gadmin-samba.

To share a folder on samba. Just right click the folder on file manager then select SHARE THIS FOLDER

Hi,

Just curious, do you plan to add combability for the Kohjinsha PM UMPC? You had asked if it would work on a device of mine a short while ago in another thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2082

Thanks :)

Actually the minimum ram required for QuickPup was 1Gb. However, I made some revisions on initrd in order to work at low ram for at least 512Mb. You can try the latest QuickPup on Kohjinsha UMPC. In case of hang, just swap the kernel and zdrv file to older one (don't forget to rename the zdrv file to zdrv_quickpup_20.06.sfs)
