rofi doesn't work correctly (SOLVED)

Post by gychang »

I am running the latest iso where I also have F96-CE4 running. Bookworm works well but I have noticed I can't seem to get the double column with same command as shown in rofi launcher. In F96-CE4 works with double column. Command I have in my jwmc-personal file in both pups is

<Key mask="C" key="space">exec:rofi -show drun -theme gruvbox-dark-hard -width 65 -lines 16 -columns 2 -font "Ubuntu 14"</Key>

any suggestions?, maybe 2 dfferent versions are being used...

Rofi is not a default application in BW64, but after installing and testing, it seems the failed double-column diplay is a recent rofi regression.

Specifically, the multi-column display option fails with rofi 1.7.3 (available in the Debian Bookworm, Trixie and Sid repositories), but works correctly after reverting rofi (and dependencies) to the older 1.5.4 version available in the (oldstable) Bullseye repository. In a quick internet search, it seems others have also reported failed display options for columns and lines in recent iterations of rofi.

@radky How can I get hold of the older version for use in the bookworm?

@gychang

The older 1.5.4 version of rofi is available in the (oldstable) Bullseye repository (link below).

Please Note: When compared to the current 1.7.3 version available via APT in the Bookworm repository, the oldstable version of rofi has older dependencies (and some additional dependencies) that may not be compatible with other current BW64 applications.

That said, if you choose to manually install the older rofi in BW64, this means you must manually install and configure rofi and the requisite dependencies (including associated symlinks). At the bare minimum, this will include rofi and the libxcb-icccm4 dependency for which you must create a libxcb-xrm.so.0 symlink to libxcb-xrm.so.0.0.0. The ListDD application (ldd command) will help you find any additional missing dependencies.

The following debian.org page has download links for the (oldstable) rofi 1.5.4 application and requisite dependencies.

thanks!, now 2 columns are working in Bookworm...
I removed the latest from synaptic then, used the link u provided and downloaded the .deb file and that worked like a charm.
