BookwormPup64 10.0.9 sound issues using a kernel I compiled

Post by l0wt3ch »

Hello all,

I have a weird problem, maybe you could help me out. :)

I compiled a kernel using the config from 0.8, with aufs and the rt options enabled. I replaced the files on the usb stick, booted, and everything seemed fine. Sound worked. Then I saved and rebooted, but on reboot I no longer have sound. Is it something to do with the kernel/aufs and save file/folder? What could it be?

You are using BookwormPup64 10.0.9?

Can you get sound working by right clicking on the tray speaker icon.
Select preferences.
Select Output devices tab.
Select to use the correct device from the list, by clicking on the green check mark icon for the correct device?

Reboot making sure save is updated.

Sound still not working?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Can you move this to its own thread? This might get complicated.

As for your questions, when I first boot sound works out of the box, but even if I adjust the settings, if I reboot making a save, connman and pavucontrol are missing from the panel. Starting pavucontrol from the terminal says it can't connect, basically pipewire has stopped working. So basically if you save, you can't have audio.

I just tried again fresh, with the latest stable from kernel.org and the .config from 10.0.9, with aufs and the rt kernel options enabled. Exact same thing. So now I am trying without aufs enabled, in case its something to do with that. If it still doesn't work, I may try compiling it again, with the original .config with no changes to see if works then.

Update, the issue is fixed. the reason the save folder/file wasn't working was strictly because I had aufs enabled in the kernel. I turned that off, keeping everything else the same, and now audio and connman work after saving.

Wow I spent a long time troubleshooting this. Oh well, now we know.

Oi @l0wt3ch

The default kernel for this OS is Overlay.

You are building an AUFS RT kernel.

You do not say which kernel you are using/building.

Why noy share your 'positive' results, your the man

I know, but I had seen something about the OS having aufs working if it was enabled in the kernel, so I had both overlayfs and aufs enabled in the kernel. I saw the initrd use aufs instead of overlay at boot, and everything was fine, other than the save issue.

Actually I have a bunch of stuff I want to share, hopefully it all still works. Let me play around with it for a while. :)
