BWPup64 claws mail won't open links to URL/firefox (solved)

Good day, I am testing BWPup64 as live cd and cannot get claws mail to open links to firefox/url;

Checking the manual info., I tried going to: CONFIGURATION>PREFERENCES>EXTERNAL PROGRAMS>WEB BROWSER-change dropdown to: firefox '%s' , then clicked APPLY and OK below ,but it still didn't open links.

Also,above the web browser dropdown area, is written: %s will be replaced with file name/URL
Does anyone know if and how I can fix this ??

Or does it start but does not show the website in the link?

What happens if you type firefox in a terminal?
Is there an executable named firefox in the PATH?
As opposed to, for example, firefox-bih
If firefox does not start, do you start firefox by clicking an icon?

Where is the firefox executable? (type which firefox)
Do you need the full PATH to the firefox executable?

Is firefox installed?
Is firefox an app image, or a portable?

Claws Mail runs as spot (restricted user) in BW64.

Clicking an email URL will call the 'defaultbrowser' which (as initially configured) launches Firefox as root (unrestricted user). In this scenario, Firefox fails to launch properly.

You can configure the defaultbrowser to also run as spot (restricted user) and this should allow Claws Mail to call Firefox successfully.

Menu -> Setup -> Set default apps -> System -> Web browser -> run-as-spot /opt/FirefoxESR-portable64/firefox64/firefox

I did as you said (run from spot) but no change. Could a claws setting (preference?) be a problem)? Don't worry if we can't fix this, I 'll just use a different mail app.

Thks. williams2; see below answers: The firefox here was already installed in the BW64 distro and is firefox esr 128.5.1; it works fine when it's icon is clicked.

You might try the following setting in Claws Mail Preferences:

1 - Go to Claws Mail Preferences -> External Programs
2 - Uncheck the checkbox (i.e., uncheck 'Use system defaults when possible')
3 - Copy the text below and paste in the 'Web browser' entry box:

run-as-spot /opt/FirefoxESR-portable64/firefox64/firefox '%s'

This works for me, so you maybe you could test in BW64.
