Bookworm-pwjack

Post by geo_c »

I installed Bookworm a week ago so I could format and install pups on an nvme drive, and then I started to configure Bookworm. Very nice.

Then I realized it's running pipewire, so installed pipewire-jack, and all the lv2, vst, ladspa plugins I could find, as well as the really good jack audio apps. Well it's just great!

Current OS's I have running a powerhouse collections of apps using pw-jack:

KLV-airedale
KLV-spectr
F96_CE4
dpupBW64

They're all fantastic. Bookworm has a lot more audio packages than Void, though they aren't all the latest. For instance Ardour is version 7 as opposed to version 8, but seems to run well. Problem with ardour is the project files aren't backward compatible, though they are forward compatible. My connections are made using qpwgraph. Carla rack does not seem to be in the repo.

And since I just came into 2 desktops with 16GB of ram, you can see from the screenshot view of conky that my computer is practically asleep running this Calf plugin rack loaded with fluidsynth. You can also see from the terminal that I started the Calf rack with pw-jack calfjackhost.

I have desktop files for all these jack apps in the other three OS's that are setup to start with the pw-jack command, so I'll copy those into my bookworm install.

Synapic is a good package manager, and I managed to install a trove of apps without breaking anything AFAIK so far.

Now I was wondering why there's no /pipewire directory in /etc, and then I realized that there is a package for wireplumber sample docs, and that may be where the pipewire configs that I use and edit in the other OS's came from. I'll probably just copy those configs into bookworm to set the pipewire-jack buffer rates.
