How to upgrade Bookwormpup64 10.0.6 to 10.0.7?

Post by Titan_ext »

I am currently using frugal installed BookwormPup64 (10.0.6) with a save folder. I want to upgrade from 10.0.6 to 10.0.7.
I looked around in the forum and was unable to find a post on how to do upgrade BookwormPup64, but I did find one post for Vallina Dpup.

To update your Vanilla Dpup, simply download a newer build and unpack the files:
1) Replace vmlinuz, initrd.gz and ucode.cpio with those from the new build
2) Put *.sfs from the new build in the directory with the files from the older build
3) Once you reboot and everything works, you can delete *.sfs files that came from the old build

Is the method used to upgrade BookwormPup64 the same as quoted above?

No one has really tried it yet.

I would keep the 10.0.6 good working install and do a new frugal install of 10.0.7

This way you still have a good working version of BookwormPup64 to fall back on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of the time you can do a frugal install of a newer version of a specific named Puppy.

Copy the save from the older version into the newer version frugal install directory(folder).

Boot it and see how it works.

Anything that was installed that is kernel specific is not going to work.

10.0.6 and 10.0.7 are using different Linux kernels.

Note:
Just did this new frugal install of 10.0.7 and used the save from 10.0.6 copied into it.
Boots OK and seems to be working.
Did get a few messages about some things in the save getting updated.
Have all the settings, configurations, and added software that was in 10.0.6

I could delete the 10.0.6 frugal install, but you never know when it may be needed to get out of a issue with 10.0.7 not working.
nothing wrong with having two frugal installs.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Thanks @bigpup, it worked!

I also took a backup of the save folder using the 'Pupsave Backup' tool prior to doing anything.
Additionally, as you have suggested, I am keeping the 10.0.6 version as a fallback.
