Check to see if "qpwgraph" is installed on v10.0.6. If not install it.
@rockedge or @radky ... should this (or similar) be an OOTB utility now that Pipewire has been in place in current PUP forum versions. You know the benefit it offers admin/users/trouble-shooters, I think.
@JusGellin Using that utility should make sound obvious. ALSO which browser are you using? Yet, that utility should help understanding.
@Clarity
It wasn't installed so I installed it.
When I select it from the menu - nothing happens
If I try to run it from the terminal it gives this error:
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in ""
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinistalling the application may fix this problem.
Aborted
Reinstalling didn't help.
Thanks
Look in the menu for the audio configuration...look for the options for selecting the audio device to use .....this must be checked first.

I don't see anything in the menu except for AlsaMixer.
There's a Volume Control in the tray. For Configuration it says "No cards available for configuration"
I've had the laptop have sound with a different Linux installed on it.
I'm not sure what to do.
Thanks
Looks like a firmware component is missing! Maybe a kernel module is not loading. At any rate, your audio hardware device is not being seen and that leads to these conclusions. Is there an ALSA configuration or mixer panel at all?
What kernel components are included in your frugal installation?
I installed a pristine version of v10.0.6. I did an update of BOTH the repos of PPM and Synaptic. Then, I used synaptic to add 'qpwgraph'.
I am not have the problems being reported. I tested this in a VM as well as on bare-metal. Here's my results:
.
Hope this is helpful
Sorry, I got tied up on some things so I didn't get back. I really appreciate all your help and want to respond to your questions right away.
I have the same BookwormPup running as a virtual machine on my main computer. The sound works fine on it.

Yes, I can bring the ALSA up from the terminal.
Kernel is 6.1.76

@Clarity
Thanks, I am also running this version on my main pc as a virtual machine with no sound problems.
I have done a lot of work on the laptop which probably has contributed to the problem.
So I probably need to back track to my first backup and try that.
I just didn't realize this was a problem until today.
Thanks to all of you for helping me. I'm just not experienced enough yet and so I probably focus wrongly instead of the more obvious.
I have a frugal BW Pup that I just verified the sound works on.
I could have checked this before if I was thinking. But it still is exciting to find a resolution to problems even like this.
Now I can go back and see what I did to the present laptop to cause this mishap.
I've reinstalled Calibre and ran some setups - audio is still working
Ran calibre-7.0.0-x86_64.pet to put Calibre into the menu - after reboot audio stopped working. So that seems to be what affected the audio and stopped it.
This pet was adding calibre, E-book Editor, and E-book-Viewer to the menu. How can I add these without using the pet that affects the audio?
Thanks
I tried to remove those items to see if it would restore the audio - no it didn't - I'm not sure how to correct this other than go back to a clean install and do the reinstall of Calibre. Then maybe manually added this to the menu somehow.
Does anyone have any tips for how I could do this?

Re: calibre-7.0.0-x86_64.pet
I assume the above calibre package is the one provided for FossaPup64 at the following link:
viewtopic.php?p=103799#p103799
Please keep in mind, archive packages that are binary compatible with FossaPup64 are not necessarily compatible with BW64.
If your installation of calibre did not provide files for the BW64 menu, maybe the files below will be helpful:
@radky
I think someone suggested it for placing calibre into my menu. That worked but I didn't understand how it could affect BookwormPup as you mentioned it could. Then I didn't realize what it did until much later.
Is there any way that pets are described for what they were built for?
Thanks for providing me the correct one.

@JusGellin
For the most part, forum members post their pet packages in the forum thread of the supported Puppy distro. For example, the above calibre-7.0.0-x86_64.pet was created for FossaPup64 and the author placed the pet in the forum thread pertaining to FossaPup64.
Sometimes the third-party pet packages contain binaries or libraries that are appropriate for certain Pups but may prove incompatible with other Pups. Some pet packages include 'noarch' in the package name which means the package should be compatible with most Puppy distros, both 32bit and 64bit.
Of course, there is still the issue of the usrmerge file system of modern Pups. However, in this scenario, the updated Puppy Package Manger of BW64 (thanks to jrb and marv) converts non-usrmerge pet packages into the compatible usrmerge format prior to installing to the target (BW64) file system.
My first thought was to use Mikewalsh's portable as these are 'self-contained', never become a part of one's system, co can't conflict But he didn't publish one.
You could try installing Calibre using synaptic as that version will only provide libraries created for debian-bookworm. If you do, please post your results or any problem you run into. Synaptic is good, but not perfect. I'd backup my SaveFolder before installing anything not specifically created for Bookworm.

I tried using this, but it doesn't give the main Calibre menu. I even tried just adding the one:
/usr/share/applications/calibre-gui.desktop
This shows up in the menu manager, but the actual menu items in Documents that came in were:
E-book editor
E-book viewer
LRF viewer
This was even with or without the other two items - calibre-ebook-edit.desktop and calibre-ebook-viewer.desktop (I used a clean install of Bookworm each time)
Am I doing something wrong?
I installed Calibre that was suggested like this instead of the Syanptic Manager:
wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sh /dev/stdin install_dir=/opt
Thanks for your help
@radky
I tried installing calibre using the Synaptic
After the installation it also gave three menus from the Documents menu:
E-bookeditor
E-book viewer
LRF-viewer
None of them do anything when selected
Looking at the Menu Manager, I don't see any reference to calibre.
I seem to be losing ground. But I know if I don't care about using the menu I can use the method I had before from using wget to download calibre and use commands directly from the terminal.
Should that be what I need to do it? Or again, am I doing this wrong. It seems that using Synaptic should set this up and would be the best way to do this. But it doesn't for me. I'm kind of lost from my lack of experience. Am I the only one having problems with the install of Calibre using Synaptic and also making the menu work for it?
Thanks
I'm wondering if the calibre part should be on a different topic from this?
It seems that the sound problem was caused by using a pet from a different puppy to add calibre entries to the menu.
I know not to use that.
And should I just stick with the way that I've had so much help with originally to at least getting the calibre to work and just not use the Synaptic install of it?
Calibre does work so well for me.
Yes to both questions.
A topic should stick to only one issue or question.
One specific Puppy version.
One specific computer.
Multiple questions, computers, Puppy versions, etc....
Turns into a big confusing mess, to read and understand, what a post is really talking about.
Now we have to talk about installing removing software issues with pet packages.
Read this:
https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=1819
To uninstall a pet package you use the (PPM)Puppy Package Manager ->Uninstall (could be called Package Manager(legacy))
Select a listed installed pet package.
Click remove package.
To Linux Software
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
