How to use HP P1102w Laserjet in Bionicpup32?

Post by Denis »

Dear people,

I installed Puppy Linux last week and I am not able to print documents.
The CUPS Printer Wizard recognizes my printer, HP LaserJet Professional P1102w, but the model is not included in the list of printers. In Wizard there is an option to provide a ppd file. After searching the internet, I found the corresponding ppd file in https://github.com/koenkooi/foo2zjs/tree/master/PPD
But the Wizard gives the notification "Bad PPD file".
Please, could you help me to solve this issue?
Some informations about my system are given below.

Best regards,

Denis

I can't help with your printer problem except to suggest that you try some newer Puppies. Why did you decide on Bionicpup32? Isn't your Acer a 64-bit machine? It's supposed to have a DVD burner, so you could try other Puppies by burning them on a DVD and then booting them in the Acer. That way you don't have to disturb the Bionicpup installation on the hard disk.

Thank you, Flash.

Indeed my machine is 64-bit and it has a DVD burner. I opted to install Bionicpup32 because it is a lightweight OS and the machine is nearly 15 years old. If a solution to the installation of P1102w in Bionicpup32 does not rise, I will follow your suggestion. Thank you again.

Hi Denis,
There is a thread on this forum that might help you (raspup). The p1102w is no longer supported by HP and consequently
drivers are hard to find. My experience has shaken my faith in Linux. I believe it 's only tolerated when it is highly complex. Sure to drive the average person back to mainstream distro's.

Regards Tony.

The answer to this problem might not be a bionic32 Pup. It might be a Slackware puppy. I'm using what is now called AtomicPup 21. Since the OP's 'puter is 15 Y.O. it might have the i915 video in it. I see a 965GM in your specs, I'll have a look on-line.

Have you tried installing the hplip package from the Puppy Package Manager? (HP Linux Imaging and Printing)

According to the HP website , your printer is supported from hplip version 3.12.6 , and the Puppy package manager will install hplip 3.17.10, so your printer driver should be included there.

After you install the Hplip package.
Do a reboot having your printer connected and powered on.
Then try Cups again to set it up.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o

I will add this pair of links JIC. These two are Puppy Package (manager) files made for puppy by rcrsn-51. When the original link got toasted/borked I happened to have a copy, and uploaded it to archive org. It has come in handy for more than a few.

This one first

Small patch 2nd
