Booting F96-CE_1 from a CD install not working (solved)

Post by bigpup »

I always do USB installs to boot from.

Decided I better try a CD burn install of F96-CE_1 to see if it will boot from a CD.

I cannot get it to boot.

Anyone got it to boot from a CD install?

For me it does not even act like it is trying to read what is on the CD.

Never get anything, no boot menu, nothing!

@bigpup Oh oh.... this should not be happening. I can boot into a QEMU virtual machine and create a save folder after formatting the virtual hard drive but that is from the ISO. I'll look at this as well :geek:

In Fossapup64 9.5, you should be able to use Menu>Mulitimedia>Pburn, use F96-CE_1.iso as the source. Note: the resulting CD will only boot in MBR legacy mode.

If you check the spreadsheet table I sent you, test 1 &2 (as well as 3-8) shows that F96-CE_1 cannot make a UEFI CD. In order for it to do that the ISO has to be rebuilt. That's what the uefihybrid.sh script can do.

Thanks

I am going to mark this solved.

But not sure what fixed it.

Telling me that the F96-CE ISO cannot burn a UEFI CD helped.

I re-burned a new CD.
Made sure to burn at a low speed.
Went into the computers UEFI setup and made sure it was set to boot in legacy mode.
It was, but I reset it anyway. Doing a new UEFI setup save and reboot.

After doing these things.

Got it to boot from this new CD.

Could have been a bad ISO burn to the CD.
Maybe resetting the UEFI setup and making a new setup save.

I hate UEFI and the boot in this mode or that mode settings.

Well this UEFI bios also had a setting to select legacy +UEFI boot mode.
That is suppose to auto adjust to the type of boot mode you are trying to ask it to do.
Anyway the F96-CE CD also booted OK with that boot mode setting.

So on this computers UEFI setup for boot mode.
Legacy mode worked.
Legacy+UEFI mode worked.
But not UEFI mode.

Learned a new UEFI boot mode setting for my computer legacy+UEFI :thumbup2:
