Tbird does not open links in Chrome [solved]

Fossapup64, new install of latest version. Google Chrome 60. Thunderbird 68.

I have Chrome set in default apps as default. Clicking on a link in an email in Thunderbird opens a blank Chrome page rather than the link I wanted. Any thoughts on how to correct this? Thanks.

this may seem a little odd but will set chrome as the defaultbrowser globally for all apps.

1 open palemoon and when asked if to set as default browser select YES then close palemoon
2 open /root/.local/share/applications/userapp-Pale Moon-#####.desktop as text
3 change exec line to

Code: Select all

Exec=/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome %u

google-chrome should now be the default browser in all apps and open links correctly from all apps.

it's still not clear to me how to set this global setting without doing this bodge, so if anyone can enlighten me please do
