hp dual core laptop, 2GB, 500GB , n6040?, firefox, 9.5.1, frugal, mono boot. websites like au.yahoo.com, gumtree.com.au, and anything else with long list of topics fill up memory until mouse unusable. currently i reboot or restart X. only takes a few min or so to fill. router is only 150MbS. wifi connected. i've had similar before and looked over all my old posts here but could not find it. so far i've turned pic off, to no avail. i have not done any streaming on this pc. thx.

In Firefox
Go into settings -> Privacy & Security
Try disabling anything that would let stuff happen in the background.
Try to turn of remember history.
That is an old version of Firefox.
Latest version is around 103

Re: memory fills up fast on nbn.
just had a thought. could the cpu be hogged by large slow download, making mouse freeze? the active processes window was out of sight before, and after a wait, the problem apeard to clear. can i reduce the priority of the download so my main screen gets more time, or do i need a faster router?
edit 1
router TP Link_BF17 bit rate 135Mb/S IPV4 only listed
when on yahoo,/home, cpu usage =100%, savefile=100%, memory =1.44gb to 1.64gb 3x Isolated Web Co @ abt 200MB ea + firefox at abt 200MB.
wifi icon goes red with top left corner blue, disconnects after a time. can auto reconnect. when processor less busy.

Re: memory fills up fast on nbn.
I strongly suggest getting a newer version of Firefox.
Is this happening when you are downloading something from the web site?
If yes.
Try letting the download complete before doing anything else.

Re: memory fills up fast on nbn.
no, its actually the cpu overheating. the cpu temp box fills completely and it stops. currently 41deg @26%. i can't undo the box as i'm too weak to free the screws. it could be full of dust. pc is hp 15 g040AU. no fan sounds, may not have one? no vacuum cleaner here. thx all, i'll fix it later. cpu speed 1GHz.

The AMD E1 6010 is a weak processor and is easily overloaded by modern high content web sites. I also have several low power computers in that same category and they also struggle on the many web sites.

Access the URL I mentioned and look up memory. Disable the one that says cache.memory.enable.
You should try using Palemoon instead.
