Canon printer suddenly started printing blank pages (Solved)

Post by Subito Piano »

Hi all --

I was printing to our Canon IR-ADV C2030 printer without issue for months with the Canon-supplied UFR-II driver. I can't figure out anything I added that would have caused printing issues, but now all I get is a blank page when I print. I've installed various (Open Print drivers and official Canon 64-bit deb packages), replaced /etc/cups with the default folder from the fossapup iso, restarting the printer, the laptop, checked online, all kinds of things -- all to no avail. Other printers work (but this one is color and in my office area).

I'm trying to avoid a fresh install. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

How to fix a Cannon printer printing blank pages

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Thanks, BigPup -- you're always so good to respond to distress calls...!

That said, the printer works fine for everybody at the office....except for me. :-/ So lesson learned, I neglected to back up my pupsave file every now and then. Starting from a fresh install (i.e., a new pupsave file) without deleting my old one, I was able to copy over configurations and such from old to new. Basically, all my documents and other work files are kept outside the pupsave file and backed up regularly --- but not the pupsave sfs. "Operator interface error" in this case for not using a simple safety net.

Are you saying that the printer started to work again?

The printer never stopped functioning correctly for anyone but me using what was probably a somewhat corrupted Puppy OS -- not the OS per se, but my configurations. I just don't know what happened to cause the issue and couldn't find the remedy. A fresh install worked. Also, it's a commercial unit, multifunction, not a home printer as in the video above.

Again, lesson RE-RE-learned....backup everything on a separate drive!
