FossaPup64 9.5 Help needed. (Solved)

Post by HiHoGo »

Hi I have downloaded the puppy linux FossaPup64 9.5 latest official puppy from here fossapup64-release
This Puppy linux os seems to be the bass puppy linux setup. no decent apps or such. here are the following things I have noted

  1. has a different desktop with the background image is pixilated. There are different icons on the desktop than in the pictures. Image

  2. wifi configuration does not detect my wlan0 network, I know the wifi works on my other puppy linux os. it comes up with this error

    Error!
    Failed to raise interface wlan0.
Failed command was: iconfig wlan0 up.
    Error returned was:
ifconfig: SIOCSIFFLAGS: no such file or directory

  3. there are just the basic puppy apps installed and only dillo web browser even connected to the modem directly things dont work.

Is there something wrong with this puppy version or is this just a basic barebones puppy linux os.
my previous puppy linux versions are XenialPup64 and BionicPup64 both worked well and had good setups.

You did not say how (or if) you installed FossaPup.

puppy_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs contains the file system for a minimal core system.

The rest of the operating system is in adrv_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs

Kernel modules are in zdrv_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs.

If you want the complete operating system, you need all 3 files in the same place:

puppy_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs
adrv_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs
zdrv_bionicpup64_8.0.sfs

You should also update the OS using QuickPet.

I found that Freesbie in FossaPup did not connect to the internet.

i found that the newest version of Freesbie did work properly.

Error!
Failed to raise interface wlan0.
Failed command was: iconfig wlan0 up.

Is the word iconfig actually in the error message, or was it a typo?

Hi @HiHoGo,

your screenshot looks like booting the minimal version without the adrv.sfs?
Check this ...

peace

You did not say how (or if) you installed FossaPup.

I have been using puppy linux on and off over the years since about puppy 432
With my puppy os I create a folder on the drive or flashdrive and put the puppy files in making a frugal setup.
then I run the grub4dos installer from the puppy linux menu to detect the new puppy setup.

the full files I have from the FossaPup64_9.5.iso are
initrd.gz
vmlinuz
puppy-fossapup64_9.5.sfs
zdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs
(when I looked again in the iso I realised I had missed the adrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs so I have copied this over I will know next time I boot puppy if it works or not. just busy with some other things at the moment.) Thanks again for your help.

You should also update the OS using QuickPet.

yes Quickpet was introduced to puppy linux around puppy 5xx version. it has made things easy to install the basic apps and stuff when needed browsers, music apps. document apps, xfce desktop, etc etc. Quickpet for the main updates after installed. I like using as many .sfs app files as there are available rather than installing puppy .pet and ubuntu .deb apps.

@HiHoGo, please do not use the word help in your title. It starts the forum down a slippery slope that ends up at the bottom with every post just titled "Help". I've seen a forum like that and it's not useful to much of anyone. Be more specific in your title.

And please only ask one question per topic. Asking 3 questions in one topic braids the replies to the point where the topic is difficult to follow. Think of the people who may be trying to help you and also of the people who may be searching the forum for an answer to a problem like yours.

Your mentioning Bionic puppy,

Yes, i meant to list the correct file names. Mea culpa.

The sfs files that make up the FossaPup file system are:

puppy_fossapup64_9.5.sfs
adrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs
fdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs
zdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs

puppy_fossapup64_9.5.sfs are the base files.
adrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs are the rest of the files
fdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs are firmware files.
zdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs are kernel modules

If adrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs is not with the base sfs file, FossaPup runs as a smaller more basic version of the complete FossaPup.

I see your point about labelling topics Help.
I think its ok to ask the questions I did here relating to my use of Fossa{Pup64 9.5. williams2 reminded me to check that I had both adrv and zdrv lies setup. and I noted I had forgotten the adrv file. its all sorted now thanks.
