Converting directory-based frugal to file-based frugal ?

Post by courtage »

I've got a Fossa 64 setup on an ext3 disk, as a "frugal" install using a directory rather than a save-file.
It's already quite heavily customised.

I'd like to also run it on a Windows 7 box, which of course sits on an NTFS fs.

As far as I know, it's only possible to run a frugal pup on NTFS using a save-file (that is, a 3fs or .4fs file that can be mounted properly)

So ... is there an incantation (probably comprising cpio & xz and whatever) that will convert my directory into a (.3fs or .4fs) save-file that I can transfer to the Win7 box?

thanks

OK, I guess I could do this ...

1. Install fossa on NTFS & create the save file
2. Copy off my *existing* fossa save-directory to a disk/usb
3. Boot the ntfs box from say bionic
4. Mount the fossa .4fs from bionic
5. copy the fossa savedir across the mounted new fossa savefile
6. unmount everything
7. reboot
(all the while keeping one's fingers extremely crossed)

i'll let you know how i get on ...

First, the save folder has to be placed in a location that is formatted in a Linux format.
Note:
Use Gparted in Puppy to do any ext 4 formatting. (does 32bit ext4)
Some main stream Linux OS's do ext4 64 bit.

Are you saying this utility exists or are you saying you would also like one?
