i have a default basic save file, so i can go back to a working model. can i merge this file onto a corrupted working file to restore bad settings but not lose journal files etc? can i edit a separate save file without running it? can i load 2 save files together?
Can I edit/merge Save files?

Re: edit/merge save files?
can i edit a separate save file without running it?
Yes.
Best to do it when it is not being used.
In Rox file manager
Left click on the save file or folder.
A Rox window opens showing what is in the save.
Think of it as a completely seperate file system, inside the save.
Do anything you want to do, inside that Rox window.
Copy, past, open directories, close directories, add stuff, etc.....
Just do it only to stuff shown in this Rox window.
Always returning to this Window.
When done.
Close the Rox window.
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected

Me thinks the " SAVE FILE" just can be read..... but not edited this Way.....(cause it is a compressed squahsf File)....."SAVE FOLDER" can.
For editing " SAVE FILE" it must be extracted first>edited >and then requashed.
Please correct me someone if i am wrong.

Re: edit/merge save files?
You really would not want to merge a good working save with one that is not working.
Very good chance it would just make a still not working save.
You could open the bad save as shown in previous post.
Open a good working save.
Have two Rox windows open.
Move stuff from one window to the other.
Manually move or copy stuff from the bad one to the good one.
But what is good to move??
That is the unknown.
Documents, videos, pictures, etc.... are probably safe.
When you get into specific programs added to Puppy by you.
Who really knows what they may have messed up.

You can do it to a save file or save folder, as I stated in above post.
Save file is not a normal SFS file and it is not compressed.
A save file is a file system, inside a file, and that file is made a specific size.

You are wrong. The contents of a savefile are not compressed. It's not a compressed squash file. I'ts read/write

O.K......My Fault......cause i mainly use Fossa Dog.... did test it with the 01.filesystem.squashfs File....thought it was the same for the puppy savefile.
Thanks for the Info.
