New and actual Amiga-pseudostyle background for Fossapup

Post by Grey »

Happy Puppy New Year! New and actual Amiga-style background for Fossapup :) The plot is as follows. On New Year's Eve, decent puppies and kittens celebrate and culturally relax. But evil, insidious Windows Beast and Virus Queen are not asleep. Fortunately, our heroes have an old tank, then RPG-7 (made in 1961, but Fossa stole modern grenades from a secret Russian military factory) and a brand new knife forged by the best blacksmiths from "Forged in Fire"...

You can take it in 1920x1080 resolution in PNG format here:
https://yadi.sk/i/68wIN35x_C6l1w
In general, the format is initially vector and if necessary I can make ANY resolution.

By the way, I forgot. If you want the drives and partitions icons to be displayed ABOVE the "Fossapup" letters, then at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 do something like this: Menu >> Desktop> JWMDesk Manager, then Icon Manager and ROX Icons tab and set Start gap = 824 and Edge gap = 250 You may have to slightly change the numbers for yourself, but something like this.

I thought that Amiga style is Amiga Boing Ball. But your picture looks like made in Deluxe Paint, nice.

BTW. Is this possible to make old Amiga-style UI:

in JWM or other WM/DM?

Remember games that have a gradient in the background? For example Trolls, B.C. Kid aka Bonk's Adventure. And Ball is for demomaking :)

Of course, we can disguise the design of the desktop and make it look like Workbench, someone even did this, but I don't remember the details. In simplest case the icons and color scheme just changed. Although someone made a theme for GTK. But what is the degree of similarity in percentage, I do not remember.

P.S. I haven't watched the cartoon about Reksio for so long :) Thanks for reminding me with your avatar.

A little off-topic but i found something with new Amiga-style:
WorkbenchOS

And there is AROS (i've tried it on VirtualBox some years ago):

There was an amiwm but is discontinued:

Good old cartoons from Eastern Bloc like Bolek i Lolek (Polish), Wilk i Zajac (Russian), Krecik (Chech).

Most of these projects run on a virtual machine, not a real one :) Others use KDE, which is a bit fat for Puppy. So I installed FS-UAE in Fossapup and configured ClassicWB-OG (this is the version of ClassicWB from Russian fans). Of course, we need to have Workbench and Kickstarts images. As a result, we have: Dopus file manager, AWeb browser configured for internet access, WHDLoad launchers, EaglePlayer, DeliTracker and all that jazz. The downside is that not everyone can set it up correctly. But now we can play games(my favorite Benefactor CD32), watch demos, listen to collections of Chiperia, draw, write music. And all this from the hard drive.

Nice collection of kikstarts i assume that all are ripped from from Amigas that you owned ;). I had Amiga 500 but i've didn't save Kikstart 1.3 before i gave Amiga for my younger cousins. Never tried Amiga emulators but i think about buying Minimig . Can you program on emulated Amiga in BlitzBasic or Lattice C and save compiled programs?

Gordon Bennett.....

I know many people have looked at some of my desktop screenshots over the years, and said, "Arrrgh!! TOO much going on....." :D

Even so, my actual wallpapers are usually quite restrained; often a single object in sharp focus on a softer backdrop.....I'm a fan of "liquid metal" images, and abstract backgrounds, but I'm afraid that wallpaper in the first post would drive me insane in very short order; it actually hurts my eyes to look at it..!!

I think that it is a storytelling wallpaper. This was hard year. We had to put up resistance against not only Windows but against Corona Virus too. But Navy Seals/Alfa team made from Madagascar fossas protect our asses and after good fight drink vodka with Puppies under the Christmas tree ;)

This is my interpretation ;)

Well, yeah; I'm not disputing that. Each to their own, of course. :D

But that wallpaper is... Well; it's a bit on the "bright" side, y'know what I mean? :o

Not MY "cup of tea"..!

I myself prefer landscapes and women (not necessarily naked) as wallpapers but i think that Grey's painting workshop is good. I myself have two left hands for painting ;), so don't give up and paint wallpapers, comics and posters.

Of course you can program. By the way, if you remember BlitzBasic command set, you can try writing programs directly for Puppy Linux, because there is a version for Linux (BlitzMax with extended command set). Here I quickly wrote a micro-demo(compiled in Fossapup):
https://yadi.sk/d/3URnpOKlAC7--w
After unpacking you can start with a left click, but better do right click>>Run in Terminal to see some information in terminal window. Of course, the animation is "wooden", but you can see the capabilities of BlitzMax :) Press Esc to exit. Don't look that the size is so big, I just converted the music from ZX Spectrum to OGG Vorbis format :) If without this, then the compiled files are compact, plus BlitzMax can be forced to pack files using UPX packer.

Hi. Have you played the Amiga version of action-packed strategy game Syndicate by Bullfrog?
I once played the Sega Genesis version, which is more action-packed. Now I'm thinking which version to play - Amiga (fs-uae) or MS-DOS (dosbox). Some of them have more strategic parts.
