Quickpet-> Wine download and install problem

Post by bigpup »

Quickpet->Useful->Wine

I live in USA.
Had some problems getting a completed download of Wine from default nluug.nl repository.
Took several tries to get a completed good download.
This seems to be common for me, trying to get stuff from nluug.nl repository.

When installing Wine.
Did not get warning about 32bit compatibility sfs needed. I did not have it already loaded.

This Wine package made no menu entries for Wine.

I installed wine_extras-v2.1.pet
https://ia801504.us.archive.org/view_ar ... extras.tar
That makes menu entries for all the main programs in Wine.

I know nluug.nl repository is not a issue, depending on what location on the earth you live.
Just wonder, if any download from Quickpet, should offer list of repository sites, by default.
Choose the one closer to your location on earth.
Example:
For me ibiblio.org
About 200 miles away, in next state over.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

The nluug's problem is not even with the speed and quality of loading. It unpacks some .pet files right during download and we get a tar file on our hard disk. SFR, author of UExtract, described the problem quite accurately http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=304
No luck, nluug shows the best speed for Russia.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask 666philb to use xz instead of gz compression when creating a pet.

Different devices. Different approach.

Hi,
Bringing my cent to this thread ....
Here (belgium) even being not far from nl (nederland - neighbour country), regularly having had some bad download experience with nluug.nl since years, I resist using that repository whenever it's possible.
Best regards, charlie
