Re: minimal modular woof-ce puppy

hi s243a and wiak i feel wiaks system is definitely the way to go to make a minimal modular puppy i of course have been following weedog since wiak started posting but it is very sophisticated and hard for me to get a clear picture of it in my mind could someone make an example core iso with the sy...

Re: minimal modular woof-ce puppy

thanks again s243a in my opinion the most important thing is to pick something that is as easy as possible to work with what puppy would fit this criterion ? maybe something that is fully developed and has someone who supports it and has knowledge of it i use upupbb32 but you may have one you think...

Re: minimal modular woof-ce puppy

hi s243a thank you very much for your reply i have very limited knowledge (essentially no working knowledge) of woof-ce but i understand (i think) as you mention that it is built using lists of the included parts however it would take a guru to know the minimal components necessary to build the cor...

Re: Updating Puppy 4, for learning and nostalgia

I noticed that on attackpup that sourcing /etc/profile doesn't add "/usr/local/bin/" to the PATH variable. I'm not sure how this folder gets added to the path in puppy 4 but it is something to watch out for for anyone running puppy 4 in a chroot. Another thing that I noticed is that updati...

Re: ? Move josejp2424's Dpup-Buster to Mainline ?

Regarding support, some developers ask if the issue is a woof-CE issue and if so seem to imply that the issue should be handled in github. Granted not all issues are woof-CE issues such as how to do something on a particular version of puppy or how to get a particular application to work.

Re: minimal modular woof-ce puppy

I think the easiest way to do this would be to split the puppy into components based on info in: /var/packages/DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS /var/packages/woof-installed/packages /var/packages/builtin_files/* Prior to doing this one would also want to define pseudopackages for the various compenets of the orgin...

Considering the Puppy-type utility apps, a lot is going to change (but, thank goodness, WeeDogLinux uses a simple plugin build system): I have grave doubts about gtkdialog, but what would I know...?... GTK3 can work, so maybe ok???... But if everything needs somewhat re-written, I question using gt...

Here is an updated sfs, see orginal post for instructions on how to use it: AttackPup2Headed_0.0002.sfs It was tested prior to creating the sfs and not after. As noted above "apt update" and "apt-cache search" now works. Much to do and test. This is very very very preliminary! Ed...

Some more progress. I added the gpg to apt key as follows: wget -q -O - https://archive.kali.org/archive-key.asc | apt-key add **Not sure if this was necessary It turns out that I do need, gpgv_2.2.20-1_i386.deb for gpg features of apt to work. josejp2424's Dpup Buster CE is certainly as good as any official puppy. I'll let the main puppy developers explain how a puppy becomes official because I don't completely know the process and all the requirements.

Just some more limited testing. Part 1 - Fixing Urxvt after the fact Urxvt was working but lxterminal wasn't. For lxterminal to work, I needed to install libncurses5 and libtinfo5. The actuall packages I installed were: libtinfo5_6.2+20201114-2_i386.deb libncurses5_6.2+20201114-2_i386.deb libtinfo6_...

Re: Problem with Abiword and "remove builtin packages".

The same happened to me after remastering. In fossapup64, /root/.packages contains a folder called builtin_files-sml. Before remastering, there was a folder called builtin_files, it disappeared when I remastered (must be a new thing the remastering script is not ready for). This builtin_files folde...

[sfs_only]: Attack Pup, Pristine and with Updated Core/CLI libs/utilities

This is in a way, "crazy preliminary" AttackPup2Headed_0.0001.sfs but I'm kind of amazed to see what worked so far. My question was, "Can you upgrade a derivative of Puppy 4 with much newer libs and would the older GUI components still work with the newer libs?". To my surprise i...

On another note, my list of packages to remove , in order to gut the core/cli components of puppy is larger than the number of packages contained in "puppy 4" and derivatives. It might be instructive to see which of these packages are actually in puppy4. In attack pup here is the list or c...

replacing the older kernel of an old puppy with newer one can add functionality. For instance - swopping the original kernel of Racy with that of Tahr will give you the functionalty of additional drives like the adrv and ydrv. Taking the newest version of Puppy and changing it to using a series 3 o...

Might it have something to do with the "xhost +" command that you do in your chroot scripts. For security reasons I would prefer not to use this command but it might help something work in the appimmage.

The "Legacy Puppy Section"...What about non-official Puppies

I don't think that the "Legacy Puppy Section" should only apply to official puppies because it is usually the case that Legacy versions of puppy (e.g. Precise) have been maintained by others. For instance jrb produced (Precise Light), rerwin produced ( Lucid Revitalized ), ttuuxxx produced...

@s243a thanks for weighing in on this. The 95fix.sh along with the standard remaster filled my needs. I've created many "fix" scripts over the years for other puppies. Typically when I get ready to use a new puppy version I do all the customization, add pets, etc, then remaster. I don't a...

Re: A few tips on remastering after minor issues?

I wonder if the issues could have anything to do with how Fossapup64 9.5 is separated into more sfs files than normal. That could be part of the issue. However, this could be solved by creating an iso with the sfs merged. Another issue with the puppy remaster script is that for certain directories ...

Speaking of bugs in the search feature, it ignores the word apt, saying it is to common. Fortunately if I'm searching for apt I can search for dpkg instead. That said, I don't think that forum members here are that apt to say the word apt, unless they are searching for the apt package.
