Much better if it was included in the devx by default

Any news about kernel 6.7.x aufs-patched release?

  1. Will investigate
  2. aufs-6.7 is unlikely to be available for some time

Re: Discussion: Where should UPup32 go next?

Bit OT but there has been some discussion of how long Debian and hence Ubuntu will provide 32-bit components............ Just noticed on Distrowatch: In other words, it looks like Debian will continue to supply 32-bit packages, the project will just phase out install media for the aging architecture...

Re: Is it time to reconsider putting Pale Moon browser in Puppy versions

The adrv, bdrv and ydrv read-only layers are located between the read-write layer and the Puppy layer and all take precedence over all the layers below them. The only difference between these 3 layers is their position, and hence precedence, in the stack - the order being adrv -> ydrv -> bdrv -> Pu...

Major Void infrastructure changes mean that all older VoidPup's are broken - do not run vpm update!

Resolution may take some time .....

Re: aufs future - new patch

Seems we've now got to the root cause of the last aufs failure. /fs/aufs/i_op.c was the real problem. Although aufs6.6.4 hasn't been released, a patch has, & @peebee successfully made a 6.6.7 kernel. I compiled a 6.6.8 kernel & patch appears to be successful, as it boots fine & in brief...

Re: VoidPup32 and VoidPup64 Discussion

Ah - the problem was with 10.0.5 - has been fixed in 10.0.6........ You could try running dhcpcd in a terminal - that works for wifi - I don't have an ethernet connection to test. Otherwise you could try reverting to 10.0.4 or try 10.0.6 from Slackware Current e.g.: https://slackware.uk/slackware/sl...

Re: Comparing aufs vs overlay

As long as the swapping operation was done correctly and the kernel is not corrupt or misconfigured, result should be the same. The result is the same - I downloaded your test build and it fails to get to a working desktop .... just like my initial test. If I swap the kernel for a 64-bit kernel-kit...

Re: aufs vs overlay

@peebee Did a fresh 32 bit build with a 64 bit kernel and it boots fine, https://i.imgur.com/A1AK0PH.png X doesn't start but this is common in 32 bit builds on this 2015 laptop. And everything is super sluggish (boot time is horrible), probably because of xz. Mine wasn't a new build - it was an exi...

Re: aufs vs overlay

@peebee overlay doesn't break support for 32 bit userspace, this is probably conicidence (a broken kernel, a broken SFS, ...) and nothing more. I run old games and other 32 bit applications on a 64 bit kernel (even tried pure 32 bit userspace at some point) and everything works great with overlay. ...

Re: aufs vs overlay

FWIW......... probably won't affect many people............ using aufs, a 64-bit kernel can be used with a 32-bit system build but a 64-bit overlayfs kernel cannot be similarly used (crashes out just before getting to desktop) This means that 64-bit-compatibility sfs for 32-bit systems are not feasi...

You can find Debian-based kernels in https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE/actions/workflows/dpup-kernel.yml, currently it has the Debian 11, Debian 12, Debian testing (what will eventually become Debian 13, 6.5.13) and Debian unstable (6.5.13, soon 6.6.x) kernels rebuilt for use in Puppy w...

Re: BookwormPup32 feedback

I can't think of any recent pup I had this problem. I run latest voidpup, s15pup, jammypup32, fp96CE_4, quickpup64 etc. - they use the i915 intel driver which is good enough for me (do not want to bother with nvidia driver). If I run bookwormpup32/64 without ext. monitor all is well. Since bookworm...
