Re: Real-time audio processing in Fatdog64

Thanks for the feedback, geo_c. In jack you basically choose which device to use, whereas pipewire gives you all soundcards that are enabled simultaneously. You can run multiple instances of JACK server, one for each hardware device, if you really want to. I can take the input from one device, and p...

Real-time audio processing in Fatdog64

This thread and this thread by geo_c are interesting. Interestingly, it is possible to do the same thing in Fatdog, without using pipewire. Instead, we can use the real JACK server (which is included in the base). In Fatdog 901 you can do this with aloopd. All you need is to launch JACK server usin...

Educational post about Chrome sandbox feature

I am als not sure why many Chrome-based browser cannot be executed with the sandbox feature. Is the sandbox disabled automatically for Chrome when you execute it in FatDog? Here's the magic stuff that everybody whispers about not never dares to ask. Let's start with a plain fact: everytime you laun...

/usr/lib64/libgobject-2.0.so.0 is a symlink. Make sure it points to the correct version of the library.

Code: Select all

To add to step and others, the only power management that Fatdog does are: a) alert when the battery is low, and b) shutdown when the battery is too low, and c) suspend if the lid is closed. We don't do anything else; things like "automatically suspend after idling for XX minutes" etc, if ...

Re: How to change Bash prompt for login shell?

Just want to add my late opinion on this. m1k3 , then you said you want to run bash as the shell, what do you mean? Because by default, the login shell (and any other shell you run inside the terminal emulators) are all bash shell already. /bin/sh is a symlink to /bin/bash. Bash does run slightly di...

fatdoguser , exciting stuff! Please keep them coming! Just a note of testing with glxgears: on modern systems, glxgears syncs to the video refresh rate, so you almost always get 60fps (or close to it, on real hardware). To test the max rendering rate using glxgears, you must tell it to not bother w...

Re: overlayfs and sfs load/unload

I have been thinking along the same way (but with different implementations). It is already possible to use this in standard Fatdog, by loading the SFS, and then run sandbox.sh (or rw-sandbox.sh if you want to have persistence); and when done, leave the sandbox and unload the SFS. In fact, for my ow...

There's a reason why companies that build browsers (Opera, Brave, Edge ...) decide not to build their own browser and mostly wrap Chromium with different UI.

But then if we follow this to its logical conclusion, we end up with mono-culture which has been proven to be bad for security, isn't it?

qcow2 is nice for size (sparce file that only grows as needed) and for the likes of snapshots, however raw, even though it takes up the full amount of size allocated ... Should the save file describe the subfolder OR is it to describe one of the 2 created multisession filenames in the savefile parm? Re: QEMU v8...couldn't update; would someone add it to the repo?

Here is the thing about qemu. It's not only an end-user application. It is also a build tool, a tool we use to verify our builds. New versions of qemu sometimes contain breaking changes, so updating qemu means we have to re-verify our build tools to accommodate for these breaking changes. Thus, upda...

Re: SAVE Sessions - how does this work?

fatdoguser , the slash if implied if it is not given. But it's better to be explicit, I agree. Clarity , the last part of the name is not a folder, it is the session-filename pattern. So if you put /Sessions/v901new , you're telling Fatdog to keep the sessions in /Sessions and name the session file...
