I just saw this Blue Recorder announcement moving onto Wayland and newest GTK. You might find it of interest for its use simplicity.

No need for that because xfce menus automatically populates desktop files from XDG_DATA_DIR folders. Just add categories on /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu file
