I've watched this thread from the start. Personal choice. To me Pupmode 13, gives the greatest flexibility when shutting down to be able to save or not save as I want. On SSDs, it also reduces writes.

I would leave it as ataflsh . Personally I believe it gives you more options to save or not save. The updates reside in ram until you,click the Save icon, which saves any updates made to that point in the session. With pupmode 13 you can choose the save period or to not save at all. Now that you actually have a save, if you only have a single save file / folder, the boot process will automatically boot using it. You won't have to do the 0,1,2 part. So maybe delete the dummy place holder saves and the second save you have.

the lock on the drive is one thing - the other is: Audacity blocks you from using FAT/FAT32 disks for saving project files as they are limited to a maximum 4GB per single file and this can easily be exceeded when editing.

I would think that the lock icon, is what is stopping you from editing the file. When you open the file, is it indicated that the file is 'read only'?
