Re: EasyOS Kirkstone 5.8.2 update

Re: aufs future

Yes, I isolated which kernel caused the problem. I also found which commit. I have sent emails to some kernel developers, including the guy who's commit has caused the problem. That was a week ago, no one has replied. I will post to my blog about it soon. I can create a patch to fix it, but I really...

Re: EasyOS - /root not in snapshots

Ha ha ha, it was too obvious for me to see. A typo.
'/n' should be '\n'

'\n' means the new-line character.

Re: EasyOS Kirkstone 5.8.2 update

as you have already noticed by yourself, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=118617#p118617, Ungoogled Chromium offers several privacy advantages over simple Chromium or Google Chrome (absence of Google stuff). Me and my family have been using successfully Ungoogled Chromium for the la...

Re: EasyOS Kirkstone 5.8.2 update

After downloading it (Firefox), I cannot configure it as the default browser. It is not present in the Default Applications Chooser. However, it starts in the terminal and curiously it appears in the Default Applications Chooser and disappears as soon as you close Firefox. Hmmm, Default Application...

Re: EasyOS Kirkstone 5.8.2 update

I confirm that Firefox is broken by the update. At least /usr/lib/firefox is missing. That is not a bug. 5.8.2 has changed from firefox to chromium builtin. Folder /home/firefox should still be there, with all your bookmarks, history etc. Choose "Download latest Firefox" from the menu to ...

Re: EasyOS - /root not in snapshots

OK, so the code you quoted from easy-version-control is working. It will include /home/firefox/.cache in the exclude list. This is intentional, as the cache grows very big, and isn't really needed to be saved. Ditto /root/.cache is in the exclude list. The only thing that I can see wrong with the co...

Re: EasyOS - /root not in snapshots

Rollback to an earlier version is broken. I posted that it is broken in the 5.8.2 announcement: https://bkhome.org/news/202405/easyos-582-released.html Also mentioned it in this forum. There are quite a few things wrong, I expect to fix it in 5.8.3. Thanks for reporting that fault in easy-version-co...

I did the upgrade and everything seemed to be working okay and then with 5.8.2 no working Firefox and also having issues with Chromium so I'll wait until everything gets worked out.

With 5.8.2 you will have to choose "Download latest Firefox" from the menu.

Regarding Easy 5.8.2, yes it is out, but 5.8.3 is expected to be released very soon.

Still haven't fixed rollback to previous version, from the initrd menu. Thought had it fixed, but hit another problem.
Maybe tomorrow.

Re: DistroWatch needs a newer Puppy version listed for Puppy Linux!!!!!

SFSs consume RAM not because they're added to the aufs/overlay stack, but because initrd copies the SFS from disk to a tmpfs in RAM (and then mounts the copy). It's not squashfs, aufs or overlay that do this copying, but initird (unless you specify pfix=nocopy ). If mounted directly from disk witho...
