Re: It's a small world.....

Thanks, Mike. I picked up on Yocto, but not the names. Mountains, eh? I've been trying to figure out what a 'scarth' is. If it had been scarpgap I might have gotten somewhere. Tee hee on me.

Re: Write a script to help the installation in a internal drive of a PC

Thanks, Caramel. I'm feeling so much better about my installations. Also, I like watching the development, including errors and rewrites. It feels much more like learning than deciphering finished and polished code. I appreciate your willingness to share everything.

Re: The installed EasyOS's are extremely large!

I'm confused (as usual). I started out with a 953Mb .img file that I couldn't mount. I EasyDD installed on a USB stick and copied the SFS, kernel, and intrd to a folder on my HDD. Once booted, the USB folder went to 961Mb and the SFS had become 5 folders and a few small files were added. On the HDD ...

It's true that downloading is not facilitated. I gave up after 20 minutes of clicking and reading and downloaded from Major Geeks. It was kind of embarrassing.

Re: Thoughts on Easy's default screenshot apps

Just a plug for mtPaint and its screenshot. I don't know who Mark Tyler (I think that's right) is, and my first reaction to his program was negative. Now I use it preferentially. GIMP was even stranger, but it's improving, and Photoshop isn't worth it, unless you're a pro. mtPaint is in almost every ...

Re: Customizing early boot. Speed up, skip password etc.

Hey, r-tea, the posting by Thanos went south (still visible on reply screen), so I assume initrd is not your issue and you are looking to improve a bootloader, which you must specify for advice. Generally, Grub4Dos is simple, ugly, and slow, but I love it dearly as I have no sense of aesthetics or ...

Re: Puppy on MacBook: Keyboard backlight not working

Hey thanks, n-at-han-k. I actually prefer Macs for puppy, etc., because they have high perceived value, and people are more likely to take them home. I've never actually used Mac software, and I didn't know there was supposed to be a keyboard backlight. That's definitely a value-added feature for ...

Re: Firefox now a privacy/freedom nightmare, need alternative Gecko browser

I've been using the Zen browser, a Mozilla fork still in beta. It is different. It seems pretty polished. I like it. It's available in AppImage for easy inspection, and it accepts most extensions. I'd be interested if anyone else thinks it's worthwhile.

Re: Create a virtual machine (Qube) for Easy OS

Hi goblin. I'm pretty sure I'm well below you on the totem pole, but I admire creative speculation, especially when it's well written. Hardware and software levels of security isolation sounds like something twice as complex and twice as good, but I think it might be twice as complicated and ...

Re: Getting started with EasyOs

This keeps getting better and better. I've been racking my brains about where I'd seen "scarthgap" before. This is a Yocto fork that got out of bed. I'm afraid I don't keep reading when I hit kiosks and routers, no matter how comprehensive the platform looks, so I don't know what a "scarth" is, but ...

No problem, Barry, I'm good to go. In fact, I've been giggling and dancing around for about 2 hours. This is an incredible distro based on an amazing concept. It does everything, including several things I never even imagined could be done, and it's all ridiculously easy. WOW! You did it all over ...

Re: Getting started with EasyOs

Greetings! I'm an old puppy person, and at pp4mnklinux's recommendation, I'm giving EasyOS a try. First, let me say that it's a great distro, ferociously fast, and it looks like it will be a lot of learning fun. Now the but: Clicking on the .img file does not mount it. Gunzip insisted that mount_img ...

Roger that, bigpup, mea culpa. I started this commenting about online manners and ended it the same way. We had a lively discussion on remastering and iso making that I found usefully informative, but it did degenerate into a bull session. My apologies.

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

At pp4mnklinux's suggestion, I took a look at EasyOS. First things first, I was overjoyed to discover that Barry still has a puppy presence on this site. In reading through the docs, I was similarly happy to see he's still just as bright. Sadly, I still don't understand half of what he's thinking ...

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

Big ups, mikesir! Pretty sure you nailed it. I elected fdrv in the process, and it remained untouched in the new version, exactly the same size, so it's not a firmware issue. I added the original bdrv and zdrv, and the ydrv I had created to the new frugal folder. The kernel still vomited hex ...

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

Aw shucks, wizard's remaster2clone script produced a livebuild folder that I renamed noblepup2 and booted from a grub mod. Looked good for a while, then threw a sync failure kernel panic full stop. The install it was working on had a nicOS Utility save2SFS ydrv.sfs on it, so I suspect a conflict. I ...

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

Hey, rockedge, the manual protocol is first on my listing. I will of course try it. I've just finished a new KLV folder and grub4dos listing for your SFS remaster script's output. It runs fine with a single compound SFS, vmlinuz, initrd, and w_init-latest file. (I still have to study that last one ...

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

I've never met a can of worms I couldn't open. I've used a mindless approach to ozsouth's method: once I've finished besmirching the author's work with my personal preferences, I just tar the KL save, move it into a fresh install on the next machine and extract it. (I just ran rockedge's KLV script ...

Re: How to make a live ISO of my linux?

@wizard
I gave it a few shots. Runs on Noble64, yielding a liveCDbuild modified clone. I mounted the main sfs to see if new stuff was there. Some is, some isn't, but it's only 58M. The process was too fast and no actual ISO was produced. I'll inspect further tomorrow. KLA-KDE fails at line 94 'cause ...

Thanks, wizard. Embarrassingly, this is the first time I've seen the actual script, and I'm bashing my way through it, back and forth. At least I now know who shinobar is. This thread is old, but so am I, and I'm kinda upset by what I've just read. I started with puppy using persistent CDs, several years after Barry's original sharing. OS tech grew, and so did puppy, but everything still fit on DVDs. UEFI threw a monkey wrench into the works, but the puppy mavens ...

Re: Anyone Have Any Idea Why Justin Bieber Linuc Based On Lucidpup Doesn't Have Working Repositiories?

Historical note: I had some contact with the JBL author when this came out, because I really liked his graphic approach. Sadly, I can't remember his name, but the skinny was that this was a joke distro that went viral due to the JB name. A gazillion teeny-boppers downloaded it with no idea what ...

All these CD-size spins are great. I still have almost 50 CDs that can now be put to good use. It's much easier to remaster than with Ventoy ISOs, and optical storage just got a lot cheaper. Thanks a million, ozsouth.

Zen is a wowser browser. I've run the AppImage on Bookworm, S15, KLA, KLV, FossaDog, etc. It seems to be a de-bloated Firefox with a spanking new shell and much stronger security provisions. A lot of redundant actions have been eliminated, so it's easier to use, once you get used to it. It's also a ...

Re: KLA Plasma KDE customizations-tweaks experiences

I'm a renewbee since Precise. Thanks Sofiya for a great K9! I notice there's no remaster option, and this distro won't run the nicOS Utility pet, insisting on extracting it. In case it's of any use to anyone, you can tar your save folder, add it to a fresh install and extract. Kinda klunky, but it ...
