Re: Oh tried windows 11

Good luck getting win11 running on an “old” machine. With its tpm chip requirement. Even some machines from 2018 won’t install it. Though there is a registry hack.

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

You know the kernel your Puppy or any Linux Distro uses is a big factor. I tend to change to a series 4 kernel for most of my Pups or sometimes even a 3 and notice a difference in booting time. However some distros once booted the series 5 kernel makes little difference to performance. As for the si...

Re: Vanilla Upup 22.03 beta3

I haven't gotten very far in exploring Vanilla Upup 22. I'll probably wait until problem (1) is resolved. (1) It hangs on shut-down. After making some basic changes -- e.g. configure wifi-- I shut-down, creating a SaveFolder. The SaveFolder was successfully created and, on reboot, my settings had b...

It hasnt been updated in years and not sure it was all that useful back in its day, but its available: https://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxbbq/

Quite true Mouldie but the recipes they used for some of ther minimal builds are very useful still. CWM, Fluxbox, Blackbox, etc anyone?

Re: What Puppy for a 2007 PC w/ 500 MHz CPU and 1GB of RAM?

There used to be distro called LinuxBBQ they used machines like this. Doesn't exist anymore but basically it was Debian or sometimes slackware with or even arch with a very minimal window manger like Awesome so you could start with a non-xserver environment and Add a minimal window manager. https://...

@Mike Walsh - Yeah sorry mate to be honest a bit of a habit. In this country they were the butt of many jokes.

Funny thing is Our Police replaced their Holdens with them. They seem to come with a lot of unique extra features.

Used this iso above. Compaq cq61 - this thing boots quickly which is amazing as it has a 5 series kernel. Thanks Fred.

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

As has been said the Browser demands of modern internet. 10 or more years ago a lean Pup like 4.12 or 4.31 with seamonkey would have sufficed on really old kit.

Maybe you have an old profile which allows you to do this.

Running Pups again for awhile. Had to swap kernel to 4.19.23 from Pfeco's Beowulfpup. Series 5 kernels don't boot on my Compaq CQ61.
Very nice like the BBwireless app.
