What are the specfications of the computer you are attempting to boot Puppy on? CPU? Amount of RAM? etc.
Not sure since TazPuppy hasn't been updated in a while, but it sounds as if your CPU doesn't support over 4GB RAM,
so we may need to try a different Puppy with a bit older kernel ...

Was trying to get the most recent version (as well as the 2 before it just to make sure it wasn't specific to 12) from the archive working in virtualbox but got this message:
