Can you post a summary on this? I didn't realise this guy still made videos. He's just such an awful representation of the Linux community.

Re: Language packs for BookwormPup 64

Firefox has language packs here

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... age-tools/

Is this what you mean? Or did you mean extra languages for the file browser or missing fonts?

Re: Graphing data without gnumeric. How?

I have had to make graphs and charts for work before and went in hunt of different tools. I ended up using Python (pygal) but tried Gnuplot and YouPlot (https://github.com/red-data-tools/YouPlot). I did do some plotting by hand too. I am interested in seeing if someone can suggest something lighter ...

Re: How do I use apt to download and install a specific app version?

You would need to change every instance of the word "bookworm" to "Trixie" or "testing". If you change all instances of "bookworm" to "trixie" in /etc/apt/sources.list, it will be a complete upgrade to trixie, e.g. when doing apt upgrade (also when installing some new software, libc6 will be ...

Re: How do I use apt to download and install a specific app version?

And also, check the official docs. What I wrote is not 100% correct because there is no such thing as bookworm-testing. You would need to change every instance of the word "bookworm" to "Trixie" or "testing". I think backports is a much better choice, even though lots of folks use Testing and Sid ...

Re: How do I use apt to download and install a specific app version?

The depends on the repos you have in your sources.list (or your sources.list.d folder). apt has bash autocomplete, so if you have activated testing or Trixie, for example, you can check all the availability versions with apt-cache policy audacity If there is a version from backports you can type apt ...

Re: In case you did not know this about Google tracking you

Absolutely Graphene. /e/ uses microG, no telemetry sent to Google, modified NTP and DNS servers, modified GPS service. Uses the "App Lounge" which combines the Aurora Store with F-Droid and PWAs. Has a tracker blocker. Requires you to have an @murena.io account for some functionalities. Graphene is ...

Media websites are all like this: lots of trackers, some benign, heaps of SEO shenanigans. https://detailed.com/google-control/ is a little example that prompted me to make some uBlacklist filters ( here ), but it isn't really related to wha you're pointing out Governor . As for phones, you can use ...

Re: how to get asunder to work on bookwormpup64 10.0.7 ??

You can try installing directly from the Debian repos:

Code: Select all

# apt install asunder

Or use Synaptic.

This will install other packages as well, but when you're done you can restart without saving or run

Code: Select all

# apt purge asunder
# apt autoremove

and be close to where you started.

usbhd and usbflash: how much difference to flash lifetime?

I've been using Puppy now for a few days at work. Originally I had installed it to a USB with pmedia=usbhd but changed it to pmedia=usbflash . I understand the difference, but wanted to know from more experienced users regarding how much wear and tear it could cause to a USB flash drive to leave it ...

I'm not a security researcher.

This article by someone who knows way more breaks it down

https://www.spacebar.news/stop-using-opera-browser/

It doesn't say anything about telemetry. I said possibly because some folks assume that is the case.

Opera is not what it used to be, it is owned by a Chinese company and possibly reports telemetry to 3rd parties.

Re: Need a browser to replace Palemoon

Mullvad is a decent option. Privacy Browser is still under development, but is pretty anti-spy.

Firefox can be made a little more spy-free with a few about:config changes, some of which appear to be shipped with Puppy, but I get the hesitance.

Looking forward to see what you decide on.

Thanks mikeslr ! I have a pretty good idea about applications, been using Linux as my only OS (except that darn work computer) since the early 2000s. I will probably just work off the base install and if I "break" it, no big deal. Tomorrow I teach 3x3-hour lessons so there's a decent chance I'll be ...

Salut @oui,

La question est donc comment récupérer des photos sur un téléphone Android via câble USB ?

Tu peux nous dire la marque et modèle de ce téléphone ?

Quand tu le branches est-ce que le téléphone affiche des options ou préférences USB ?

Bonne journée

Re: Restoring deleted apps and suggestions for work

It feels weird to ask this after all these years on Linux, but Puppy is such a different piece of work that I am at a loss as to where to find grub.cfg.

There is no grub.cfg in /boot or in /etc/default. I can make the changes during boot and that isn't permanent, of course.

23andMe was never officially available in my country, but not for privacy reasons. Restoring deleted apps and suggestions for work [Solved]

Hi everyone, I've been using Linux for 18 years now and finally need Puppy Linux. My work laptop—a Dell Latitude 5320—appears to hum along nicely with Puppy (Bookworm) (I think everything works that I need, not like I'll be using the tablet mode). I just have two very beginner questions: Office Sui ...
