Re: A Source Based Pup.... Possible???
My packages compiled in OE are online:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64/packages/compat/oe/dunfell/
So it should be possible to get woof-CE to build a puppy from them. You wouldn't need '0pre-oe'.
EDIT:
That is, if you are ok with my configure choices. It looks like the mainstream puppies ...

Ditto bigpup... mostly.
I was looking at that series too.
I would keep Windows 10, opting out of S mode, and would run Puppy on removable media. I still need my Windows printer utility and you might too.
Might check it out!

Has anyone else noticed that 'sfs_load' doesn't seem to work quite right?
It's most noticable when trying to "unload" an sfs, it doesn't actually get removed from the stack.
The problem sems to be the 'df' command, it's output no longer contains the information that 'sfs_load' depends upon.
I ...

Seems to me, the use of C as an alternative to shell scripting, in terms of accessibility, for community distro core component designs is a worthwhile ...

Why do I need a semicolon (i.e. ";") in this script?
I created the following script to run synergy in the foreground. I don't understand why the semicons are required:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh
xterm -hold -e \
'sh -x -c "echo \"starting synergy server\";
synergys -d WARNING --name puppypc31184 --no-daemon -c ~/synergy.conf;

Was a bit discouraged bout using pup, seeing the pet repository full of outdated links. So just figured well, if the pets are dying than better be ready to build a lot on your own.

Helo! FatDog64 is a very efficient system (everyone already knows). Recently, I decided to find other ways to start it. So, using Slacko64's initrd, with some modifications to the "init" script and "DISTRO_SPECS", the system continues to work very well. What is the advantage? None! However, it is ...

Re: Learning how to compile from source
It looks like version of dir2pet in easyOS doesn't have as many options. So instead of:
dir2pet -s -p=$PKG_Fname -w="File Manager" -c="Filesystem"
you can do the following:
dir2pet $PKG_Fname
That fixed it. The slackbuild script dropped right into Barrys gui version of dir2pet and ...

I will just add this here:-
Don't forget; it's only the Java runtime packages themselves that are arch-specific, yes? Any Java applications are, by their very nature, designed to be arch- AND platform-agnostic.
This being the case, I feel we actually need the main body ...

Reaper portable?
Why?
After extracting the reaper archive one can run reaper from every location.
It's portable by default!

Speaking of bugs in the search feature, it ignores the word apt, saying it is to common. Fortunately if I'm searching for apt I can search for dpkg instead. That said, I don't think that forum members here are that apt to say the word apt, unless they are searching for the apt package.
