Re: Is there a way to compile minetest on puppy?

Has anyone managed to get minetest compiled on puppy bookworm64? Managed to get it to compile OK Version is 5.8.0 release tarball They have a split-off source package of irrlicht which you have to download and compile first (must be mt13 version in this case) That needs SDL2 so added SDL2 version 2...

Re: Is there a way to compile minetest on puppy?

@FloraMae There might be a possibility to take the Void Linux package and use that binary in Bookworm64 . I would have to look. Seeing that it is in the Void Linux repo and is stable that means there is an excellent chance it will work in KLV-Airedale installed with the package manager. Otherwise I...

Is there a way to compile minetest on puppy?

I tried to compile minetest via the instructions but the dependencies can't be met (Bookworm64) and not familiar enough with compiling to figure it out further without outside help. Has anyone managed to get minetest compiled on puppy bookworm64? Looking at their website, the only options are pretty...

Bookworm64 did almost flawless move from one laptop to another

So I dug out a slightly newer laptop and decided to just swap the hard drive and see what happened. Went from HP EliteBook 8540w to an HP ProBook 6470b and the only issue was I had to re-enter my wifi password. Outside of puppy, the ProBook has a slightly smaller keyboard that pisses me off when I s...

Re: USB stick drive install using Frugalpup Installer (allowing one or multiple installs on one stick)

Just mentioning Ventoy as it can be useful. So can Medicat. https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html https://medicatusb.com/ I have not specifically tested frugal installs with either method but it might be possible. I use Medicat a lot to boot live media due to ease (drop isos in a folder and reboot). ...

Escaping the search bubble (opinions and discussion)

So, I got to thinking about just how controlled news and social media has become and how hard it is to actually find out what's really going on in the world. This post is not about conservative or liberal or anything political, it is about access to information. So, with it becoming harder to find o...

Re: Damn Small Linux is back!

Puppy used to offer a full install option. Maybe still does and just hidden. Full install used to be suggested for very limited RAM computers. Then since few used it, nobody wanted to support it anymore so they hid it. I vaguely remember using very old Puppy like that on a P2 computer.... I played ...

Various Firefox related info that might be useful to some people

This post covers what is basically the setup I use for most of my Firefox browsers. It is a result of years of use and getting what I think is a good balance of features, privacy, usability, and so forth. Version of this post: v4 I will try to keep this version number updated whenever I change anyth...

Re: Damn Small Linux is back!

Some 'small' distros achieve their small size using extra compression, so they trade size for CPU and RAM consumption during decompression. Some also leave out important features like GPU acceleration (which increases battery life) and extra fonts (so browser has to download fonts). 'Small distro' ...

How to OVPN Bookworm64

This may be modified to work on other puppies but I only tested this on Bookworm64. The openvpn service in question: https://www.ovpn.com/ The Debian openvpn instructions they give: https://www.ovpn.com/en/guides/debian Those instructions for the most part work. Here is how I did it. apt-get update ...

Re: Damn Small Linux is back!

@benali72 The current DSL is an Antix-based version. Honestly, for the little difference, I would choose Antix. Well, over the last few days I have tested a bunch of low-ram distros for curiosity and it seems AntiX is a lot laggier than DSL, at least it feels so. I don't know how they differ though...

Here are some very loose results with various browsers on Bookworm64

Just wanted to make a quick note on some things I've noticed trying and using different browsers on Bookworm64. The lowest RAM browser Ive seen so far that is "modern" is Firefox ESR. LibreWolf is a close second. Floorp comes in after that, but I had some minor graphical glitches with it. ...

Re: amethyst (a long time member of this forum) has decided to stop posting

I'm new here, but anyone who helps any project is greatly appreciated in the open source world. It takes time and effort and a lot of people can get a bit passionate about things. I can't speak for others, only myself, when I say that anger happens. Frustration happens. Time helps, but so does feeli...
