Re: Floorp browser fetcher script with .pet package making - need feedback

"xz: ./floorp-v11.13.0.tar.xz: Write error: No space left on device" Looks like you don't have any space left? Yes, I've seen that, but it looked as if the preceding tar creation already didn't work, so it made no sense to me. However it turned out that the whole procedure requires more t...

Re: Graphical glitches in the system tray, any way to fix?

Welcome to Linux software  Never used a Linux software program, that did not have some little bug in it. Wine operation of software has never been 100% perfect. It is more about can it actually run the program. Never indicated what version of BookwormPup64 But you need to be using BookwormPup...

Re: Graphical glitches in the system tray, any way to fix?

Slight update. The glitches on wunderground seems to be present in floorp but not librewolf. Not tested other browsers yet.

As for the tray glitches, I have noticed it seems to be especially common with wine apps that use the systray.

Re: Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

@FloraMae :- As far as the 'portable' browsers are concerned, these IS no official 'documentation' as such, because it wasn't an 'official' development. We hashed the whole concept of these together between us, here on the Puppy Forum. It was - if you like - a joint community development; input cam...

Re: Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

@FloraMae For me the difference between Pet and SFS installations is simply down to security, RAM requirements and deciding between day to day use/occasional use. (BTW I am using a small Pupsave file on a flash drive) A SFS browser can be used for online banking. https://i.ibb.co/xmFFRLS/Screenshot...

UPDATE: Decided to do a Google Drive folder to hold scripts and tests if anyone wants to try it out: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1oCc-VL5DlaM4_eLQhvyob04CUTEeBvPr So what is the latest version? In BW64 the script Version: 1.1 you posted here in the forum created an empty .pet package and...

Re: Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

@FloraMae :- In general, your final assumption is correct. Small apps/utilities are usually easier as a .pet; they won't occupy much space in the 'save'. Larger apps are often better as an SFS; however, things like browsers - which update frequently - are NOT. Because an SFS is a 'read-only' file, ...

Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

I'm a little curious if people here with more experience and knowledge than I have could maybe answer some questions I have regarding .pet packages and .sfs files. 1) What are the main advantages and disadvantages to using each? Let's say someone wanted to package up a browser for a puppy, which wou...

Re: Graphical glitches in the system tray, any way to fix?

I assume you are using BookwormPup64 10.0.6 Your image looks normal to me. Not really sure what you are talking about. The desktop tray is never going to be a high end graphics display. Maybe try to install and use a Nvidia specific driver not the nouveau one. This is how to do it in bookwormPup64 ...

Re: Which Puppy Linux for a beginner?

Generally speaking, any puppy will work. I don't have enough experience with the puppies to offer specific suggestions for low ram situations, but I will say make sure to setup swap if you only have 2GB of ram. To get an idea on age and end of life (EOL), check the distros the pups are loosely based...

Am I dense or is there no links to find downloads of the .img file? Ok, found a download under news: https://bkhome.org/news/tag_easy.html but now how do I mount the .img file? mount-img command doesn't exist in Bookworm64 and just clicking the .img file has no run action. I did right click on the ....

Graphical glitches in the system tray, any way to fix?

So, there is an issue I've seen since day one but it gets more annoying with each passing day and now I'm curious if there is a fix for it. What I have noticed: * the system tray has graphical glitches * some browser components (such as the wundermap on wunderground when zooming in and out) will hav...

Re: Can't boot Debian BookwormPup32 from a hard drive

Not sure how much 32 varies from 64 but if you go to the menu while booted from the CD then go to Setup then Puppy Installer it will let you install to hard drive (how I have my 64 installed). To get it to boot from the hard drive, you need a bootloader and the installer handles that. Not sure your ...

Brave browser fetch script that makes .pet

So, here is a script to fetch the latest Brave browser and make it into a .pet file. It also has a basic version check so if ran via cron it should hopefully just cleanly exit if there is no need to update the .pet. The idea of this script is to experiment with automating the pet creation of a progr...

Floorp browser fetcher script with .pet package making - need feedback

So, here is a script to fetch the latest Floorp browser and make a .pet for it. The goal is to test automating the making of .pet packages of programs (in this case Floorp browser). The goal is to run via cron to create/update a pet package easily. You could add something to the bottom to automate u...

Re: Lowest RAM and CPU puppy?

If you have pfix=nocopy in the boot menu entry that is booting the Puppy version. That is suppose to keep all of Puppy from loading into RAM. Only what is needed to run the Puppy OS is loaded. Anything not needed is kept unloaded and is loaded into memory as you select to use it. Puppy is not the b...

@FloraMae

With your hardware you should be able to run any Puppy with ease. You can check the Task Manager to see what is taking up the ram.

Thanks

Browser. Seems all the browsers love munching on ram.
