Recommendations for VNC server for Bionic32?
I'd like to install a VNC server for this HP dv6 with i5, 4G RAM, Full install of Bionic32 to dedicated ext4 partition. I use Tightvnc and Realvnc's VNC Viewer on other machines. There are quite a few packages available in PPM when searching on "vnc", and it is unclear which are usable, and what ...

Re: Bionicpup32 extremely slow after running two days?
Hi all, thanks for all the good advice. It turns out over the holidays another family member had an old computer they wanted to dispose of. It is an HP notebook with i5 CPU and 4G RAM. It is much more capable, so the Inspiron 5000 is not worth messing with any more. I created a new ext4 partition ...

Re: Bionicpup32 extremely slow after running two days?
You absolutely sure about that? How many slots does your 5000 have? Two? Yes is does have two slots. Looks like this: I was intrigued with the idea of expanding beyond the stated limits. I found the Intel 440BX chipset manual on archive.org and found the memory config options: I can't find the data ...

Re: Bionicpup32 extremely slow after running two days?
@Fossil, I did a bit of digging to see if I could add memory. It took a bit of work, because Dell has apparently re-used the name Inspiron 5000 in newer models, which is all that comes up in searches. I finally came to this site that informed me that the 512 M of RAM currently installed is the max ...

Re: Bionicpup32 extremely slow after running two days?
@mikeslr Thanks for the suggestions about swap file. I agree the default is too small. I followed this procedure to create a swapfile (not using sudo since not needed with Puppy). Everything worked until the last step. # swapon /swapfile swapon: /swapfile: swapon failed: Input/output error So maybe ...

After restart, everything back to normal. I'll leave the graphical task manager running in case it happens again.

Re: I/O Errors of dev sr0 on boot attempt
OK, it was the CD - I burned another, and now I have it booted to a desktop. Now to get it installed to boot from the internal HD. I found Puppy Installer. I used gparted and discovered the existing HD was only 1/2 allocated. So I left the Windows partition alone in SDA1, and created SDA2 with the ...

I/O Errors of dev sr0 on boot attempt
I'm trying to install Puppy Linux on a Dell Inspiron 5000. I burned bionicpup32-8.0-uefi.iso to a bootable CD, and booted from it. I selected the "normal" menu option. It starts with "copying to ram". After working a while, I got errors like sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#0 Add. Sense: CIRC unrecovered error ...
