Re: EasyOS Kirkstone-series will continue

I use tree to make an index of my audio books from the directory where I keep them. The -d switch makes it show directories and their subdirectories, but not files that might be in the directories: # tree -d . ├── Abrams, Stacey │   └── Rogue Justice ├── Allende, Isabel │   ├── In The Midst of Winte...

Re: EasyOS Kirkstone-series will continue

I can confirm that the tree-2.1.1.pet, from here, works in EasyOS 5.7. I haven't yet booted EasyOS 5.8 (I have an AMD A4 7300 processor) but I expect tree will work there too. Any chance that tree and copy-fast could be included in 5.8? They are small programs that I find useful.

To get the full version install it with apt or do as I did and use the binary from another pup with the full version.

Would you tell us which Puppy has the full version of tree, and maybe how big is the binary? Thanks. :)

I clicked the "Update" icon on the 5.7 desktop and it updated to 5.8! Wow, the "delta" file is some 680 MB.

A week or so ago, long access times were the norm for me. I replaced my cable modem and, using Puppy's tools, disconnected and reconnected. Access is much quicker now.

Re: How to protect from password guessing?

I think that limiting password tries to, say, one each 15 seconds would be enough to discourage most crackers. 15 seconds isn't too long to wait before you can try again if you just mistyped a character, but someone who's trying to guess passwords might consider going into a different line of work i...

Each partition should show as an icon on the desktop. So you should be seeing at least 5 drive icons. Do you know what filesystems the partitions are formatted with?

Have you tried connecting a flash drive directly to the smart phone?

Re: Problem with AC/DC adaptors - a question for electricians

Yep. Fresh AA (LR6) batteries have ~1,65V/1.7V and ~2,4A on my multimeter... It sounds like you shorted the batteries through the Amp scale of the multimeter. Normally this would have blown the fuse that all multimeters have in their Amp scale to protect their circuitry from someone connecting a vo...

Re: Problem with AC/DC adaptors - a question for electricians

With no load except a voltmeter, AC/DC adapters with unregulated outputs will have much higher output voltages than their specified output voltage. The specified output voltage is measured at the specified output current. Load the 12 Volt output (with a 100 ohm 1 Watt resistor for instance) and you ...

Re: Booting with USB video adapter - blank screen flashing cursor

What do you mean, the BIOS is locked? Do you mean you need a password to get into the BIOS? If that's the case, you might be able to reset the BIOS to its original factory settings, which don't require a password.

Re: How to put a screenshot image in a post?

To add to what wizarde and TerryH said: If you're running almost any version of Puppy, you can crop an image or reduce its resolution using mtPaint. Crop the image so that only the part you're talking about is left, not the whole screen. Often, this is all you need to do to reduce its size so the fo...

In EasyOS it's Menu -> Desktop -> EasyJWM configure JWM -> Tray -> Time format. I don't know if FatDog has EasyJWM.

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?

You can buy replacement keys for the Samsung Chromebook 3 keyboard here , so the keys, or at least their caps, must be easy to remove and replace. From the drawing on that web page, it seems likely that the problem with the key is some shmutz between what they are calling the hinge and the cup is pr...

I'm afraid I'm at a loss. Is there another computer, perhaps a laptop, with Bluetooth that you could use the keyboard on to see if the same thing happens, or a different Bluetooth keyboard lying around that you could use, just for a test?

Re: Bluetooth connection to keyboard is lost after about an hour without use

How to get into the BIOS depends on the make and model of your laptop. What does the very first thing say that shows on the screen when the computer begins to boot? Or you could go to the manufacturer's website and look for the user's manual for your laptop. I'm just guessing in the dark about wheth...
