Re: How to prevent /usr/sbin/pkg / petget from automatic data update after booting?
fredx181 :- We both posted at the same time! :D User :- Quite simple, really. The "pkg" script is called from /root/Startup.....by the script "PPMupdatedatabase". Just remove the 'Exec' permissions from this; rt-clk -> Properties. Untick all the 'Exec' boxes down the bottom, the...

Re: Quick Setup panel keeps appearing every boot on Hard Drive S15Pup64 v22.12 Install
I don't see the 2 Windows partitions here so maybe I have the wrong file? The menu.lst came from the 1st partition (Windows Vista) root folder. Nope, that's perfectly normal. Puppy's build of Grub4DOS modified the source code somewhat to allow searching two layers deep for a bootable kernel - inste...

Re: Google-Chrome 'portable' 64-bit browser - (with updater!)
It's been under test for quite some time because on the odd occasion, it tells you everything's been updated, then immediately turns round and tells you - at the next launch - that a new version is ready for download.....as though the update never occurred. HAHA.. funny coincident that I just PM'd ...

Right, boys & girls. Now then:- The auto-updater is now back again, thanks to the ever-resourceful fredx181 .....who took it upon himself to get it all functional again, then presented me with it as a fait accompli about 6 weeks ago - since when I've been testing it out. It's been under test for...

JusGellin :- As they come, OOTB, the Chrome, Brave and Ungoogled_Chromium 'portables' all run-as-spot, with their own self-contained, 'mini'-spot directories for the browser profile. The profile is written within the browser directory; any downloads, etc, are written to /home/spot (which is nowaday...

You can use the following as well, instead of mkdir -p /home/spot/.config/dunst/ && ln -s /root/.config/dunst/dunstrc /home/spot/.config/dunst/dunstrc : mkdir -p /etc/xdg/dunst rm -f /etc/xdg/dunst/dunstrc ln -s /root/.config/dunst/dunstrc /etc/xdg/dunst/dunstrc This links /root/.config/dun...

Re: How to add frugal Puppy to boot menu?
Guys:- Wouldn't the simplest & easiest way be to install Puppy to a good-quality flash drive.......followed by going into the BIOS/UEFI/whatever and setting the device boot order to be USB first, internal drive second? That way, you plug your Puppy flash drive in, it'll boot from that.......boot...

greengeek :- Going to have another look at your suggestion on the other thread (64bit compat libs) as that sounds more lightweight? Frankly, it IS lighter if your Puppy will run the SFS directly. Just the extra libs - coupla hundred MB or so, plus about the same for one of the 64-bit portable brows...

Mikewalsh's suggestion to use fred's 64-bit compatibility SFS works, and not only for web-browsers. But it does take a toll on RAM usage. Peebee, Mike.....not Fred! :D But in all honesty, unless you're running very old hardware with limited RAM/ability to upgrade the RAM, most of us are no longer i...

greengeek :- Right. To assuage my own curiosity - and to save you a bunch of messing-around! - here's the proof of the pudding. peebee's 64-bit_compatibility SFS does indeed run very nicely in DPup Stretch 32. I thought it should, for the above-stated reasons. I'm using Fossapup64 9.5's 64-bit k5.4...

greengeek :- In this case, Ian, it mostly boils down to how much RAM & storage you have available! Don't forget; to achieve this effect - running 64-bit browsers inside a 32-bit Chroot, then accessing those browsers from your 32-bit Puppy - you're essentially running two Pups at the same time. ...
