Re: The end is nigh

Browsers are insecure by their very nature. The totally secure browser simply doesn't exist; it's an oxymoron in real terms, 'cos the only 100% secure browser is one that NEVER goes online. Which makes it at best an ornament.....as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Re: The end is nigh

Well yes, the only time I'm really cautious is with banks and even then I don't feel much danger just don't want that risk. Probably just a bit paranoid since I don't see any reports here of anything dodgy ever happening. Case of better safe than sorry.

Re: The end is nigh

Maybe the best pratice for those with concern is to only access important sites such as banking with dedicated boot sessions using pupmode 5

Maybe so, but it provides no great security really anyway if the underlying system components are not up-to-date security-wise. I would therefore advise ...

Re: Peppermint OS vs. Puppy Linux

The comparison between distros using Wayland and those using the likes of great little XFCE is certainly interesting and KDE Plasma is pretty speedy nowadays too for those who don't like tiling per se.

I can't say that I notice any difference at all between the xorg based distros I run and ...

Re: The end is nigh

In terms of whether it matters or not, security also depends on what you use your computer for. Most stuff I use my computer for is so general purpose unimportant I don't feel particularly vulnerable. I certainly no longer would use the likes of Puppy Linux for banking - save files/ save folders ...

Alternative:
Porteux v2.0 kernel 6.14.0, under 750MB-ram, under 500MB-iso
Frugal or direct isobooting with persistence.

Porteus is okay. It's a clever design, and I've often given it a try as the years go by, but it is not quite ever what I myself want, but fine if you do.
Having said that ...

Please tell me. I am trying to migrate from Linux Mint dominance. I thought Peppermint OS was the solution.

Depends why you want to migrate from Linux Mint; I use the xfce variant of that much of the time and find it a great distro.

However, by default it is large and a full install and we can ...

Re: LinuxCNC still used

I wondered if the issue is something to do with the way your partition is being mounted.

If you run the command mount by itself, you should be able to see the mount status such as if it is ro or rw or nosuid and so on.

I don't know if the partition could be remounted with different status from the ...

Why would the partition created full install be a read only filesystem? It isn't an iso... sounds like hard drive issue. Otherwise, that old saintless advice talked about using a patched initrd so as to allow a frugal install with save persistence. That save mechanism won't be read only either ...

I use Viber everyday and for years now (in fact using it right now to keep in touch with staff in the office while out for lunch). Whenever we oppose that greed we are immediately labelled by some as 'Communists', which is just a trick use of language to effectively prevent opposition to greed.

In capitalism the biggest source of greed is how ...

Looking at the screenshot of Gimp 3.0, I can only say I wish they would change it to be a bit more like Krita, which I find much easier to use because of the way it is presented. However, Gimp is pretty good and no doubt very good if you take the time to learn it well. Actually, vector-graphics ...

I think one can use the partition UUID like this to target the partition holding the upper_changes and boot into RAM2 mode.
Remember that all the UUID and LABEL names are for example purposes only and will need to be swapped with your values.

example using the UUID for /mnt/sdc1/persistence and ...

Funnily enough, one of the facts that makes KL/FR a bit difficult to document is that they are pretty easy to build.

Indeed, part of the documentation issue, is that you build them like using LEGO so there are several (most all relatively easy in practice) ways to build/bolt them together...

I'd suggest KLV-Airedale and one of Sofiya's recent KDE-based releases, but there are several from Sofiya of interest, and particularly some tiling manager based ones. Sooner or later, we will be more interested in publishing Wayland-based KL distros I feel though (KDE in that mould of course).
