Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

***EDIT / UPDATE / CORRECTION*** to my post below - this solution DOES work!!! It suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't checked the spot permissions for the UG-Chromium-Portable folder itself. Sure enough, it was showing as root... So I recursively "chown"ed the entire folder to spot, tried ...

Re: Unable to download/save files in LibreWolf, but can in Firefox

I've been seeing the same issues with trying to run Mike Walsh's portable blink-based browser packages - specifically Ungoogled Chromium and Iron - as spot, in BwPup64 10.0.8. No problem when running as root but when run as spot, the download function (and the ability to set the Downloads folder ...

Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

OK, so with these last two comments I'm feeling confused enough that I thought it worthwhile to re-state what I'm seeing - if only to clear things in my own head...! I'm now talking specifically about Ungoogled-Chromium-Portable, which is configured in the launch script to only run as spot (although ...

Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

A-Ha! Yes that fixes things nicely  Interestingly I'd already had a look at that RUN file for possible culprits but for some reason I didn't spot the scaling switches. Many thanks for identifying the solution - seems obvious now, D'OH! Re. the vision thing, I feel your pain... Not yet at ...

Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

Hi Mike, and thanks for the input! Firstly your permissions changer pet package: It worked beautifully on my older laptop running Bionicpup64 8.0. However it didn't have any effect on my newer laptop running BwPup64 10.0.8! The same problem persists with both UG Chromium and Iron - i.e. downloading ...

Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

The plot thickens. I went back to Ungoogled-Chromium-Portable (latest version, with a new / default profile) and discovered that when run as spot the GUI is perfectly OK and as I would expect re. toolbar & menu sizing etc. But if I force it to run as root using the same run-as-root switches as the ...

Re: Iron 'portable' browser - now at 129.0.6550.0 - 64-bit ONLY (with updater!)

Sheesh. Having real troubles with this Iron-Portable when running on BookwormPup64 10.0.8. Firstly, when I run as spot I cannot download anything, nor can I change the download folder. This is similar behaviour to Ungoogled-Chromium-Portable that I was using previously, so I guess it's system ...

Setting sample rates for sound in Pipe-wire

Hi all, I've been using Bwpup64 10.0.8 on both of my laptops for the last couple of weeks now - an excellently-put-together distribution that, with very few exceptions, just seems to work without issues (apart from PupMTP, which to be fair I've never ever managed to get to work with my phone on ANY ...

Re: "Check Dependencies Installed Pkg" misreporting missing dependencies

UPDATE: So the same USB stick that won't boot at all on my old Toshiba C640 boots fine on my other machine (HP Elitebook 8470p). So a BIOS issue, presumably. However the 6-series kernel included in the Bionic respin seems to be a no-go - quite a lot of things don't seem to work properly, or at all ...

Re: "Check Dependencies Installed Pkg" misreporting missing dependencies

Interesting, Mike. I tried writing that iso image to a USB stick using a couple of different utilities (Unetbootin, usb-creator-gtk), but no go - my system simply won't recognise it as a bootable USB (very odd, especially as every other iso I've flashed to USB has given me no issues). Guess I could ...

Re: "Check Dependencies Installed Pkg" misreporting missing dependencies

Thanks for that bigpup. I probably should have mentioned that the Bionicpup updates had already been applied through Quickpet so all was/is as "up-to-date" (!) as it can be. I agree that "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies - but having said that I do use the dependency checker quite a bit when ...

"Check Dependencies Installed Pkg" misreporting missing dependencies

Hi all, I'm currently running Bionicpup64 8.0 with standard kernel 4.19.23 and have noticed the following gnarly little problem: Recently, when I run "Check Dependencies Installed Pkg" from the Setup submenu, it lists a whole load of apparently missing library dependencies - about 80 of them in ...

Re: Stellarium 'portable' - AppImage-based - current release, v21.3

OK, so I think I've got a solution already! I discovered that Alexander Wolf (Stellarium developer for 0.12 series) has a personal package archive here, which seems to contain latest 0.12 series versions (currently at v0.12.11): https://launchpad.net/~alexwolf/+archive/ubuntu/stellarium-lts ...

Re: Stellarium 'portable' - AppImage-based - current release, v21.3

I've been using this in Bionicpup64 (my current daily driver) for a while now - works really nicely. Thanks Mike for yet another great portable package, I seem to be using a lot of these! Now, a question (for any/all readers of this forum - apologies if I should have put this in the REQUESTS area ...

Re: Brave 'portable' - 64-bit only - now includes manual updater from Fred...

Thanks Mike - by way of a quick intro I'm originally from the UK but moved to NZ in 2007 and am now very much a permanent fixture here in the shaky isles. Have been using Puppy Linux on and off for many years and in recent times I've been into it pretty much to the exclusion of all else. I'm ...

Re: Brave 'portable' - 64-bit only - now includes manual updater from Fred...

G'day folks, Just a heads-up. I just tried using the updater to update from my current amd64 release version 1.56.20 to latest release version 1.57.49 and it failed (it downloaded what appeared to be the zip file but this was just a 9 byte file containing the words "Not Found"). This appears to be ...
