Thank you for that Mike.
I did try portable 2.53.18.2 in May. It upgraded seemlessly from 2.49.1.
I had to look to see which version I was using it was that good! True.
But the memory in task manager for SeaMonkey was just going crazy, wildly going way too high. It was wild to see! So I use old 2 ...

May a dumb GUI user ask a question?
Will the SeaMonkey .pet package obliterate my old SeaMonkey 2.49.1 or will it simply upgrade what I have?
ie, websites, passwords etc in the manager and history.
Or do I use a piece of paper and pencil, write the websites and passwords all down first?

bigpup, I was referring to the "atheros_kernel_modules-4.4.95noPAE-xenial32.pet" at 574K which happens to be the same size. I couldn't (too large), you could. :)
The verbiage is even the same. ;)
The first one I posted for the K2.6.25.15 kernel is definitely old. ;)

Different not difficult. I liken Linux to driving a model T Ford if you're used to an automatic. A couple things to unlearn then a couple to relearn.
No matter where you are with Linux or a T, there aren't many close by that know how to drive it.
But we like to teach it to those interested.

Bummer. Those were the only tricks up my sleeve. I did some looking on the net and couldn't put my finger on anything.

Solved. I grabbed a tarball.bz from the SeaMonkey project for 2.53.16.
Plopped it in a save file and presto. Updated SSL. It even looked for SeaMonkey files on its own and I didn't even have to think.
Same browser, same tabs, same bookmarks with an upgraded backend. :thumbup:

When I changed to Xenial 7.5 on my desk top I had to go looking for drivers also for my Atheros fired wifi card.
I found two .pets and they work good for me.

In my root/.cache are about 190 event.sound.cache.tbd......i686-pc-linux-gnu files.
Now way over 200 files.
They’re application/octet stream unknown files.
What purpose do they serve?
Dare I delete them? Was Oscar correct?

Adam Li also asked about them and OscarTalks figured they could be deleted ...

I had to upgrade the OS so I could look into your portable browsers. :lol:

OK, quick boot is back to disabled. Didn't change the speed of start-up anyway.
Subject marked solved. I figured I could but asked.
I've been pretty good to update Xenial along the way. Updating now shows the same fixes/bugs.

*Success! I could type for an hour about what I tried but the end result was setting the bios to default!
Then of course go back in the bios settings and reset the boot order.

I'll likely re-enable quick boot and change hard drive priority but that's not written in stone quite yet.

Now that's an eye opener of a thought.
The simpler F8 boot device selector. Yes, it's there. F8.
Each time I've tried that, selecting the optical drive that's always on the bottom of four choices and not changeable, as soon as I touch enter, it reboots which sounds normal.

Yes fossa, fc96, S15 and bionic all show the same menu if I can catch it. It's shown for a mere split second within the 10 second start process.

I know that the quick boot is enabled, I've read it a bunch of times. Getting into the bios is no problem. I'll disable it and see. :)

I removed 3 flash drives for start testing.

What exactly happens when you try to boot from the CD. Push the start button, beep, ASUS screen flashes twice, I see the isolinux...Peter Anvin et al and then grub ...

Burning: I right click and choose "burn with pBurn". I close the disc, look where the temp file is, check that the burner is SRO, leave the speeds auto and never do anything with the advanced tab.
Files on the disc after the burn? Oh yes ...

Once again, I left out an important detail. I never learned how to install Puppy.
Xenial, S15 and Fossa are on CD's. There may be a save file for S15 but Fossa was just burned and wanted to try it.

OR Troubles when it's time to upgrade to another puppy. I realized that when the SSL changes on the 'net, I've needed to update my puppy.
Not smart enough to deal with the SSL changes, I've blamed it on the browser.
I had to make a hardware change lately, a different desktop machine. Got that sorted ...
