Re: Using RAM, less or more?

Maybe the pig is the developer who thinks we have all that ram to waste. If it releases automatically, how is a user to know before it's too late? It's like your daddy making all your decisions for you.

Re: Grub2config replaces Grub4Dos

I am reading MBR/BIOS G4D itself supports ISO booting, it just appears a) ISO are not found by the automated search, & b) the menu.lst boot entry is not common knowledge. I found some other distro examples, still seeking Puppy (this is from one user's config): title LinuxMint 8.iso find --set-ro...

Re: Grub2config replaces Grub4Dos

@shinobar: Could this utility afford booting a PUP ISO file directly? Clarity do you know if this ever came to light? I know GRUB2 supports ISO booting, but if the utility does not support, we have to learn to manually edit entries. I boot ISO regularly, but the other utility I use automatically cr...

Re: Using RAM, less or more?

I've noticed in online forums (not necessarily this one, just in general) it seems there are many people who feel using RAM is bad. I think this comes from them reading other content specific to people with very limited amounts of RAM who legitimately need to keep their RAM use down. It's not intri...

Re: USB 3.0 hub support

do you deliberately boot into safe mode? or perhaps your w11 came with "S" mode Latter. It might be called "Secure Boot" if that's not something different. The 'feature' I'm talking about is limitation to 'approved' OS & only being able to install apps from the Windows store...

Re: USB 3.0 hub support

Clarity hello yes, This is an 11 laptop still in "safe" mode. It does not remember USB boot indefinitely, so I generally F2 into UEFI to choose USB. My testing is limited, will have to give it another go. Basically power wakes up the drives but Puppy will not recognize attached media. I h...

Re: Hotspot & tether connections but no Internet access

32 Lubuntu 16 (Xenial) connected today without a hitch, both hotspot, & tether (considerably faster).

The difficult part was trying to update Firefox past 65 where the repository thinks it's done, then trying to remember if we can run Ubuntu standalone browsers as limited users.

That was more asking about. If I were to ask for something, it would be like LxPupSC as a Upup & without LXQt, or more plainly the XFCE ydrv for Mainline Fossa: viewtopic.php?p=76396#p76396

Re: USB 3.0 hub support

bigpup I am always in 5 but intend to start using pupsaves again once I get an internal SSD in place. The reason is I spend too much time manually configuring each boot, even if it's customized. I am also intrigued by swap. It is entirely possible 3.0 vs. 2.0 technology could make the compatibility...

Re: XFCE-4.18 for LxPupSc

Xfce-4.18 ydrv addons for LxPupSc Those look really nice & would flourish with more user development. In my trial the menus were really busy but worth cleaning up for a user's primary distro. Besides looks, once you drag a launcher to a panel you'll realize how much easier it is to use. If I we...

Re: Is it time to reconsider putting Pale Moon browser in Puppy versions

Yes (dependent on the age of the Pup - i.e. recent Pups that support bdrv) - easiest is to do the quick and simple test. Is there an account for the beginnings of bdrv support? I can see it mentioned in posts, e.g. LxPupSC, but not the first distros supporting. Fossa64? Bionic32? FocalPup32? There'...

As a non-coder I was trying to hack a standalone script, manually looking for the existence of any mountpoint in /mnt with the test command. I suspect the one we all use is more elegant.

Pupsave location & sharing Windows swap

Perhaps this is common knowledge not understood through lack of experience: Q1: If boot details are contained in a pupsave, how does Puppy find a pupsave out of its default location? Both hotplugging & partition icon refreshing create 2nd pinboard

Willams2 explained how to fix this problem, but it's important to know how to prevent it in JWM. First instance simply plugging in a USB creates a 2nd pinboard. The partition icon blinks on and off clicking on the desktop. Second instance when you want to refresh drive icons in the Puppy Event Manag...
