Thank-you for this. "rox /usr/share/applications/fatdog-service-manager.desktop" opens the manager albeit with a long pause, and the file itself is identical. I am comparing each file with another machine running the same now.

you could try installing androidx86 or chromeos in qemu, as a virtual computer! It might work. I was trying to run VooV, but it wouldn't run, also didn't run on wine. Is your app available as a chrome extension?

I have never set the region on any of my dvd drives, and now am attempting to play a dvd on VLC which fails a third of the way through a 3.5 hr movie. The sr0 drive says "7.6Gb udf". I threw an mplayer command line at it and one of the VOBs a third of the way through says libdvdread chokes on a CSS ...

FYI, I subsequently was able to compile Python 3.9.13 with devx
and no save file. It threw a lot of errors but installed and ran. So if
anyone wants to run a dirty system I have that to report...I tested it
with a number of scripts and from what I could tell nothing
critically bad happened...looked ...

Yes, the MD5 checks out and it is on a USB key that boots other machines just fine. It also fails on a second USB key and slot. It seems (and I am purely guessing) that the initrd loads, then vmlinuz on top of it exceeds some memory capacity. Other than that, this machine has a Broadcomm wireless ...

So I took some actual photos (unfortunately the flash comes on) of the screens. One shows vmlinuz loading then trying to load initrd...the second shows the near-immediate result: a long list of attempts to write and populate followed by kernel panic.

Yes, the problem is booting at all. Kernel panic then a black screen real fast.
Will try to capture it but very difficult. Purpose of upgrade is to run driver
