Dpup9.0.35 + VirtualBox won't start

Host RAM: 6020MB (5.8GB) total, 1934MB available It starts booting normally, then it says "Starting X". Then I hear it bark twice. Then it freezes. The last line of VBox.log says, "NAT: Error occurred while sending ICMP error message" If I disable APIC, it barks once then static then freezes. But ...

if no ISO, then how to use VirtualBox?

There's apparently a move to do away with ISOs; so with a non-ISO distro, do I have to create an ISO for VB? Or can VB be made to use the files from a frugal install? E.g.: https://vanilla-dpup.github.io/ "9.0.x is the last Vanilla Dpup to feature traditional ISO images..." so should I avoid 9.1 ...

"You are using an unsupported command line flag --no-sandbox Stability and security will suffer." All so it will run-as-root. Thanks for the explanation, Mike. Now I won't give the warning another thought. Naturally, I always change from google as being the default search. There is a small oddity ...

Re: can't change_kernels via LICK (Solved)

Solved: change_kernels won't do it until you create a Save file. Then it works as expected. That fits with what I'd initially reported: that change_kernels had complained that it can't find the kernel-to-be-changed under /mnt/ [I'd said "via LICK" in the title to emphasize that this was something ...

Re: how to safely remove USB?

Before making my post, I had tried right-clicking the drive's icon and selecting to unmount. Being color blind, I did not notice the tiny square badge in the icon changing. I do notice it now, only because I know to look for the subtle difference. [Most things in Fossa are that way re: color ...

how to safely remove USB?

In Windows, you eject the USB stick before physically removing it. That prevents damage to the filesystem on the stick. You can also set the USB ports to be hot swapable.

What to do in Puppy?

Re: Opera-portable - New release : v84.0.4316.31

Here's the new Puppy-portable release of Opera 84.0.4316.31.

Thanks very much for doing this, Mike. It's very much appreciated. Starts right up, runs smooth.

But I do get: "You are using an unsupported command line flag --no-sandbox Stability and security will suffer."

Can Vanilla handle Realtek wifi and sound?

Can anyone verify that Vanilla can handle my Realtek wifi (8821CE) and also Realtek sound? Most distros cannot.

Also, can I use LICK in Windows and boot to Vanilla that way?

If yes to both, I will try it. Thanks.

Re: 5.15.18 64bit kernel

the freezing is probably outdated graphic card firmware nvidia/amd/intel Just for the record, I had no problems with my AMD Radeon graphics when using the stock Fossa, or with any of the other kernels I'd tried. But when using VirtualBox, the aspect ratio was wrong with the builtin svga. Phil, it ...

@BobW - I have a laptop with rtl8821ce, so have made drivers for several kernels. See: http://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=35232#p35232 @ozsouth OZZZZ !!!!!!! You are the hero of the month! I had just tried your 5.15.12 but that was no joy. Then I switched back into Windows and saw this ...

Re: 5.15.18 64bit kernel

Oz, I still remember the model from a year ago when I'd spent a lot of time wrangling with this problem, in Porteus. It's 8821CE. There was talk in various places that Realtek was long refusing to provide a driver. So some guy on Github wrote one independently. Finally, somebody on the Porteus forum ...

Re: 5.15.18 64bit kernel

Oz, I had tried your kernel yesterday afternoon (right after I'd posted about problems with LICK and change_kernels), because I cannot get sound or wifi going on my Lenovo laptop with Realtek. Realtek is a major hurdle to overcome in Linux - I'm guessing that's why you're doing this. Here are my ...

can't change_kernels via LICK (Solved)

From Win10, I used LICK to boot into Fossa. I started up change_kernels, which says it found kernel /initrd/fossapup64-9.5 I dragged the replacement kernel tarball (downloaded from LxPuppy, btw) into the change_kernels form, from a Win10 directory. But in the end I got the error: cannot stat ...

Re: 5.16.7 x86_64 optimized for Zen 2 (some Ryzen CPUs). Fossa

Grey, do you think this will work with my laptop's Ryzen5 3500U? That's a step below Zen2.

Most of this is new to me, but I'd like to try using your kernel and change_kernels with Fossa. Fossa's 5.4 kernel isn't giving me sound or wifi in my Lenovo.
