Freshly-released, new updated video about the backlash to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc8rvV8DDmQ

For some reason, this guy insists on incorrectly pronouncing Mozilla as "mot-zilla", which is highly annoying. Not sure why he does that.

LibreWolf looks like the way to go, but I'd have ...

Firefox now a privacy/freedom nightmare, need alternative Gecko browser

Well, Mozilla is completely and utterly ruining Firefox in spectacularly and outrageously bad ways. It'll soon be as bad, or worse, of a privacy nightmare than Chrome is!

I recommend watching this entire video for details and context including their prior terrible decisions and actions that led ...

Not sure if it'll work the same on 6.6.2, but you can try it! Hope this helps!

Re: Thank You, Mr. Kauler, for Daedalus 6.4.4

The best part about Easy OS, in my opinion, is while you CAN install it on an internal HDD/SDD, you don't have to, and if you don't, it completely de-couples the operating system and its whole associated environment (programs, settings, preferences, files, everything) from the PC and its internal ...

Scarthgap recognizes the Radeon chip just fine, and works perfectly at native 1920x1080 automatically, no manual anything required.

Hooray! Thanks everyone.

Kirkstone 5.7 - Xwin won't start on new Lenovo IdeaPad [Solved]

Hi guys. Can you help me out? A relative bought a brand-new Lenovo IdeaPad on a Black Friday deal and asked me to try it with Easy OS booted from a USB stick. I had a freshly-imaged new Kirkstone 5.7 USB stick so I tried that.

I booted from it and everything goes just fine until it's time to start ...

Re: Modification of Firefox packaging

I use xz for just about everything, for example .tar.xz archive files.

If you have some extra time, try running xz with the -9 and -e options, which basically means "compress as hard as you possibly can". Very impressive results, far better than gz and better than bz2 also.

Re: Trying to get smartmontools to install/work on Kirkstone

You should try with libselinux.so.1 from the Debian package (https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/amd64/libselinux1/download)

Wow. That worked instantly. Downloaded that .DEB file, opened with Rox, agreed to the install. Went into a terminal, typed "smartctl" and now it works!

Thanks a lot ...

Hey guys. I've been trying to get the smartmontools Debian package (.DEB file) to work on Kirkstone. I've been successful in previous attempts to get .DEBs to install and work, but this one's giving me problems.

As usual I doubleclicked the .DEB file in Rox, it installed, then I run the ...

Re: EasyOS Scarthgap-series version 6.4.4

Daedalus and Scarthgap have a password manager in the tray, builtin.

I'm planning to remove that, replace with a clipboard manager.

Does anyone have any objection to that?

There is a security risk having both a password manager and a clipboard manager, as the password manager transfers ...

That's awesome news, Barry!

With the regular package manager having access to the giant Debian repos, and also having appi and flappi when needed/desired, this will be the best Easy EVER in terms of how much software can be installed easily, simply and quickly by non-technical users.

My opinion is that WEBP sucks. It's SOMETIMES a bit smaller in filesize than JPG or PNG but the usability and compatibility problems are too great and disk is ludicrously cheap nowadays, so universal compatibility with long-time standard formats wins easily.

These two command lines will, in just ...
