Re: XFE for Easy Scarthgap-series
PCmanFM and Midnight Commander are now in the "oe-scarthgap" repository in PKGget.
Even though Midnight Commander is THE text-based file manager, I much prefer 'nnn', another ncurses file manager. It's a single pane, but with 4 virtual desktops, which I find more natural to navigate. Easy should ...

Re: EasyOS incorrectly detects phantom partitions
OK, right-click on one of the partition icons, choose "Desktop drive icon manager", then tick the "redraw and realign exsting icons", then restart X.
Thanks - that cleaned things up. Is it something I'll have to do every update, or just once on any new or existing installation? I guess I'll ...

EasyOS incorrectly detects phantom partitions
A picture is worth 100 words There is no Partition sda1 on my drive (confirmed by fdisk), but EasyOS thinks there is. There used to be a 100MB NTFS partition there many moons ago when this was a Windows PC, but it's long since been deleted (but never wiped).

Re: EasyOS 4.2.7 Dunfell-series released
williwaw,
That is very odd. For me and Alfons, only the .delta file was downloaded, and the 4.2.7 img file created.
With my Internet connection, downloading the 800MB full img file would take a long time, so I would know if it happened!
I will need to study the easy-update script, see why it ...

Woohoo - this is great news. I have a circa-1999 Panasonic Toughbook CF-T2 running Precise Pup that I'd love to dust off, plus an IBM Thinkpad T43 running NetBSD and BionicPup

Re: Limine Installer, request for help
I have another request. I want to detect whether the computer has UEFI-BIOS or legacy-BIOS firmware.
I found that running this:
# dmidecode --type bios
...
UEFI is supported
But, do all UEFI-BIOS firmware return that string?
Would you mind running that command on your PC with UEFI-firmware ...

Re: EasyOS simplification plans afoot
Can't you keep your saves on the USB stick you boot with?
Sure, that's what I do now with EasyOS, but it's slow as molasses compared to the internal SSD.
With my traditional single file savefile puppies (BionicPup, FossaPup, Slacko, etc.), once I boot from the USB, the stick is no longer ...

Re: EasyOS simplification plans afoot
The installation of EasyOS, that we describe as a "frugal" install -- Puppy Linux parlance -- can be in any Linux partition, preferably ext4, in any folder or sub-folder. It has been a secret, but a save-file in an ntfs partition is also supported .
You can't ...

Re: EasyOS Dunfell-series version 4.1 released
For manual update, you open up easy-4.1-amd64.img and copy 'vmlinuz' and 'initrd' to the boot partition, and 'easy.sfs' to the working partition (/mnt/wkg). That's it, then you reboot.
I confirm that the procedure above worked for me. I used the mount-img script to explode the img file, copied ...

Re: Philosophical question regarding 'file' desktop icon
This is hinting to me that you have updated from a much older version of Easy.
Does the desktop label have "file" or "files"?
It is now "files"
The label "file" was quite a while ago, don't recall what version had that.
Anyway, if they are the only issues with upgrading, then you are good-to-go ...

Re: EasyOS Dunfell-series version 4.0 released
You are the first person to test updating!
I should have been the first, but ran into problems with the slow internet connection and rsync disconnecting. Then was busy with other stuff, so updating didn't get tested.
I'm surprised that trash and lock icons got overlapped. What version of Easy ...

Re: EasyOS Dunfell-series version 4.0 released
I have a fixed 'easy-update' script. Place it at /usr/local/easy_version, and make sure executable flags set. Attached, with false ".gz" appended.
The update icon on the Desktop points to /usr/sbin/easy-update and not /usr/local/easy_version/easy-update . Should both locations be updated?

It's a bit of a chicken and egg thing. You'll need her laptop in order to create a savefile with her hardware profile.

@rudyt
I did study that issue with cheap flash sticks, and decided that ext4 journal would be ok. I think that I set something somewhere to minimize journal writes.
A couple of my usb flash sticks are SanDisk Extreme, that do, apparently, have a SSD chip.
But I think that even the cheap flash ...

Re: Osmo version 0.2.14 patched for libgtkhtml
Barry, did you investigate using the latest version of Osmo (currently at 0.4.2) instead of 0.2.14? The Osmo webpage you linked lists the webkit2gtk library as Optional.
I'm guessing you have other reasons for staying with the older version (probably bloat) , but it doesn't hurt to ask
