Re: MacBookPro8,1 mmc card reader had a flash of reliability
I've recently discovered that the debug_quirks2 workaround works only if the wifi is on. That suggests that either: requests are numbered and the SD controller ignores some numbers, which get allocated to the wifi, or there is some power interaction between the two pieces of hardware. These theories...

/usr/local/petget/installmodes.sh writes No space left on device. Exiting to a file that nobody reads, and then exits. Please find attached a debug patch, to /etc/rc.d/functions_x , to temporarily exercise the fault. Please find attached two fix patch, to /usr/local/petget/installmodes.sh . The fir...

Re: General tips when browsing the internet
change your browser's general user agent settings for sites like youtube
Ok, thanks. Which browsers have good support for per-site user agent? How does a person enable it? What are your favourite user agent strings?

Re: I'm not pregnant !
It is right and proper for a man to arrange his affairs to attract the least amount of taxation.
I tend to arrange my affairs, without being too hair-shirted about it, to minimise the likelihood of legitimate disputes with the taxation authority. YMMV.

Re: filemnt can destroy savefiles.
Is there a preferred locking scheme for puppy applications? Barry's Simple Network Setup (/usr/local/simple_network_setup/sns in fossaPup32) searches ps output at about line 56. I could also imagine schemes which involve exec-ing a well-known file open, and then using lsof or fuser to count the numb...

Re: PaDS 1.1.7 - convert .deb, .pet, .sfs, .tazpkg, .txz, .tar.gz to .sfs (Update/Fix: 2020-10-04)
Hi mikeslr , Thank you for the survey of options. (2) is half-done, for my particular corner of the symptom space, with the code in patches attached to this thread. I think that the right way to "post it as a 'fork' acknowledging taersh's role", if the definitive public copy is in somethin...

Thanks. Is there an equivalent plan for sourceforge, from which peebee distributes?

Re: How to contribute?
I am currently running peebee 's fossa, with sfs savefiles, because the kernel has CONFIG_AUFS_SHWH=y, which enables the generations of read+write->read-only trick. Here is a diff of the init that gives me options from the kernel command-line: diff-fossa-00-to-28.txt I think that pfix=trace is matur...

Re: PaDS 1.1.7 - convert .deb, .pet, .sfs, .tazpkg, .txz, .tar.gz to .sfs (Update/Fix: 2020-10-04)
JASpup , my PaDS came from the .pet link here: https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=6355#p6355 at the beginning of this topic. Yes, my view is that .xz compression triggered the fault. I don't know what tool(s) created the .pet. Do I assume that taersh reads this thread? If not, what do...

Further to https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=49349#p49349: @JASpup, thanks; I think it's a PaDS(++) specific problem. .pet files are being defined here: https://wikka.puppylinux.com/PETs?redirect=no as tar files with gzip compression, with a checksum appended, with no punctuation sepa...

Thanks; it's definitely the same fault. The naive version of the fix (in a shell) is not working for me in already-running puppy Fossa 32: + rmmod sdhci_pci sdhci rmmod: ERROR: Module sdhci_pci is builtin. rmmod: ERROR: Module sdhci is builtin. + modprobe sdhci 'debug_quirks2=4' + modprobe sdhci_pci...

Re: Macbook bootloader problem
Do you know exactly which model of Macbook you have? On my MacBookPro8,1, there is a hidden 200MB EFI partition on the hard disk. I don't know whether it is required to boot any EFI O/S, or whether it is required only to boot the HFS-Plus [MacintoshHD] partition on the same disk. There may be a plan...

Re: Should ISO format be retired?
Cherry-picking some comments from various posts above: First observation: If you were booting from this usb-stick, as a "live-cd", with a save-file on the internal drive, if you wanted to change the kernel vmlinuz, or edit the initrd, you can't, you have to rebuild the entire ISO. First ob...
