Re: Malware hits Linux systems

I've just "Thanked" everyone who commented on this thread. It's a very good discussion of threats to Linux systems. Personally, I don't worry to much about malware on my Puppy or Ubuntu computers. I don't "click" on any links email or in forums. It would be nice to know how we ca...

Re: Puppy as Entertainment Center?

Does typing mpv /dev/video0 in a terminal show the video from the webcam? Thanks, Williams2. I had just a little time today, but mpv... reported error, no file found. So I guess this HP webcam only works with windoze, and even that's "iffy" at times from my internet searches. It's no prob...

Re: Puppy as Entertainment Center?

Sorry for the long delay, but Hurricane Ida got in the way! I tried Fossapup64 installed on 32G usb with Etcher (same as I did with Bionicpup64), but Fossapup stopped at Grub command line. I went back to Bionicpup64 and it worked just fine after setting up HMDI monitor as main monitor and changing s...

Re: Puppy as Entertainment Center?

Thanks, Williams2, Clarity, and Mike. I had a little time to work on it today and got the sound working just fine (Thks Williams). However, my mouse kept getting stuck on the TV or laptop screen and Palemoon froze after about 30 secs watching a youtube video. But, as mentioned maybe Bionic Puppy64 i...

Puppy as Entertainment Center?

I'm sure somebody here is doing this and I'd like details. I have an old 64 bit HP Pavilion DM4 laptop with HDMI. It works OK as TV entertainment center with Ubuntu 20.04 except for webcam(?). However, I think Puppy would be faster, and, besides, I like PUPPYS! I tried installing 64 bit Bionic Puppy...

All these other guys here are experts, but I solved my "bloating" Firefox as shown: https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=33036#p33036 I also added memory, but the problem was already fixed before adding memory. BTW my old Dell Vostro 1400 is dual core and can handle 64 bit, but bus...

"Hard blocked" means a hardware-related problem.

Is this a laptop? Remove the battery and press the power button to fully discharge it. Replace the battery and try again.

Thanks, rcrsn51. This is the kind of stuff I like to know!

Show the files in /usr/local/apps in a RoxFiler window.

Drag the Trash icon to the desktop.

Thanks, williams2. I guess my 70+ year old brain wasn't working last night. That's the first place I looked, but just didn't see it. It was there this morning!

Reinstall Trash Icon on Desktop

Just when I thought I had most "Puppy Things" figured out, I "lost" my Trash Icon on the Desktop. I accidentally deleted it thinking I was emptying the Trash. How do I recover it? I looked in all the typical places, but can't seem to find it.

Thanks, Wizard. I tested my USB this morning and did a pupsave, but I don't see it on the usb. Where do I look? It may have saved to my internal HD, but not sure yet. I'm still a Puppy linux newbie even though I used Puppy version 5 years ago. I haven't kept up with it.

Aye, it's like "remaster" but I never tried it.

Well, I must have missed something. I went through the remaster and it indicated it was creating an iso file. But when the program ended, no new iso file was found.

How to make a bootable USB copy of my frugal BionicPup install?

Well, I finally got my Bionic Puppy (Frugal Install) exactly where I like it!

How do I make a bootable USB of my Puppy so I can use it on other computers? It would also serve as a backup.
I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this...I just have not found it.

That’s a threat to “national security”, I mean “our freedom”.

We’re being dictated from when to pause and update, stop and restart, to when to buy a new computer.

I wholeheartedly agree, sonny. Our freedoms are being threatened. Wake up America!

This is an old scam...been around for years!

You're right! Maybe I should have used ruse, ploy, or scheme instead of scam. My point is that this way of "selling" free software (usually at excessive prices) has been widely used ever since 5 1/4" floppies were available.
