Re: EasyOS Scarthgap-series version 6.4.4

I just wanted to post and say that I've really enjoyed using this distro. I've been using Barry's distros for many years and EasyOS has come a long way. Scarthgap is a rock solid nice little distro and is quite polished.

Excited to try out Easy Daedalus! Now with all the added app managers it's ...

Re: EasyOS on VMWare Workstation

I've made some progress.

It looks like the kernel provided in the EasyOS image does not detect the default hard drive controller that VMWare uses (SCSI):

https://people.freebsd.org/~patrick/EasyOS-VMWare-SCSI.png

It does work with the SCSI controller that Qemu uses however.

I have verified ...

I've done this before.... But its been awhile. I can't remember a detailed step by step instructions, but think I remember the overall gist.

After a few false starts, I ended up downloading one of the old easy pyros that was still available as an iso format

I mounted the iso file as a CD and ...

That's good, this probably means that the driver is both installed and loaded. Can you reboot and share dmesg output?

Also, you might want to check rfkill , maybe WiFi is blocked through software (shouldn't be) or hardware (most laptops have a key combination for ...

@Airdale My bad, it should have been /usr/lib/dkms/dkms_autoinstaller start .

I see the driver is installed, let's see if it's loaded and no firmware is missing:

/usr/lib/dkms/dkms_autoinstaller start
dmesg -c > /dev/null
modprobe wl
dmesg

No problem!!!

No wifi after upgrading Vanilla dpup. (Solved)

I'm running Vanilla dpup as a frugal install on an old Dell Latitude laptop. Typically I have to install the proprietary Broadcom drivers for the wifi to work.

I'm currently running the 10.x series (not xwayland). I installed broadcom-sta-dkms a long time ago, and wifi has always worked well ...

Maybe going from 9.3.7 to 9.3.15 is too big a jump?

Which Firefox do you use? Is it the preinstalled one?

Debian sticks with Firefox ESR so updates should be smooth even if you skip some updates like this.

Yes. I haven't changed it.

Re: Trouble flashing 10.x iso to bootable usb key

Kind of strange. Not sure what the problem was. Bootflash gave me an error... saying "This is not a hybrid ISO, refusing to continue....."

I though maybe if the iso was not a real hybrid iso with partitions maybe it would work on a DVD.

So I pulled out an old USB optical drive and burned a disk ...

Re: VDpup 9.2x encryption

This is probably due to differences in the cryptsetup version between initrd and /sbin.

Maybe you should try to put the static cryptsetup from https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/initrd_progs/releases/download/20230105/initrd_progs-static.tar.xz in /sbin - that's the one used to load the save ...

Re: VDpup 9.2x encryption

You can create a SFS which contains /sbin/cryptsetup and name it ydrv_vanilladpup_whatever.sfs. It will get auto-loaded.

I tried that and it worked well. The yrdv sfs did indeed autoload and now it asks for the password for the save file on boot up now for the first time!

However, after ...

Oh well....
Not so fast :)

I got the option to make an encrypted save file after installing cryptsetup.

I think it is because when I install cryptsetup, it actually gets saved to the savefile, of course.
So ...

What kind of save did you make?
File or folder?

I think the save has to be a save file to be able to encrypt it.

When you made the save it should have offered to you option to encrypt or normal.

If you choose normal it will just be a normal save file.

If select encrypt, it will require the ...

This probably has been addressed somewhere else, but I have looked and was unable to find it. Is it possible to encrypt the pupsave file on a frugal install?
