Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

The latest version of JWM (v. 2.4.0) had some issues with menus, svg icons etc. They are reported by arch and puppy users as such and will be solved on the next release (2.4.1). If you are planning to update SparkyBonsai (or puppy or DDog with JWM) just mark jwm packet as pinned (don't update it). T...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

Hello helloworld, Sparky linux is a rolling distribution so you can upgrade the kernel and filesystem by modifying the repositories. For Sparkybonsai it is not a good practice as the whole upgraded filesystem will be in your changes folder or file. Sparky linux has changed its repos after all, so sy...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

The boot issue with older machines (such as bark-woof-fetch celeron) can be solved with an older linux kernel. An older debian kernel version 5.4.0-3 is available to download at: https://osdn.net/dl/sparkybonsai/k-5.4.0-3-amd64.zip 1. Download the zip file 2. Backup your kernel files (vmlinuz1, inir...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

It's probably something hardware specific because of the new kernel or a component of the new installed packets (i.e. locales) behaving differently xz compressed. Please try again with "noswap" and "nomagic" only in boot options -in case of an existing hdd problem- and booting wi...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

You don't need to put it on a hard disk, suppose on a usb is the same thing. Sometimes its hard for older machines to handle xz compression but i don't blame it as youre able to boot other xz compressed puppies/dogs. Maybe it's because of the debian kernel. It's still in testing after all (next mont...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0+

This is the second report about difficulties on booting up from isolinux menu on an older machine. It was booting normally from the hd with grub.
I cant't reproduce it right here, so tell me how exactly you tried to boot (from a cd/dvd, usb, hd, mounted on emulator, pxe etc).

I wouldn't trust appimages (yet), i think sfs are more stable. Anyway, it's your choice.

Re: Cheat code to copy changes.dat to RAM

1. Make and save all your critical changes you want to restore in every boot (configurations, drivers, extra installed apps etc). 2. Use DebianDog's tool "Create Module from changes", save them in a file, i.e. "03-mychanges.squashfs" and copy it in /live/optional folder. 3. Check...

Re: Cheat code to copy changes.dat to RAM

Compressing critical changes in squashfs to load to ram on boot-up and save the new ones on exit doesn't work?

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0

If you remove dpkg registration from synaptic pack and activate it on the fly, after installations occurs an error for the (already installed) python3. But i think it's better to remove it and activate synaptic on startup. Another issue I spotted is the missing "chpupsocket $USER:$USER" on...

Re: Bullseye build script

Tested the new sfsload on sparkybonsai, activates modules as expected BUT if you try to deactivate them (loadmodule -d) returns "ERROR: Module "..." is not currently activated". The script checks at /mnt/live/memory/images/SFS for the mounted sfs folder which exists as expected. ...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0

About the shutdown menu, Sparkybonsai uses a simple script (/usr/local/bin/sparkysd) detecting the saving state and give the option to save changes. I'll check it on "EXIT:" too. I'm also looking at Porteus docs about the use of an encrypted changes file, trying to figure out how to auto-m...

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0

I can't reproduce it in my system. Maybe something to do with your emulator.
A service running periodically is the pup-volume-monitor. Normally has nothing to do with sound but you can try to disable it:

Code: Select all

# systemctl disable start-pup-volume-monitor.service

Both isos has the same system.

Re: SparkyBonsai 2.0

Hello Clarity, That "cracle" sound, sounds like an open microphone or a false audio input. Opening alsamixer and muting it may solve it. For a better sound quality install pulseaudio and pavucontrol. Sparkybonsai won't return back to JWM on tty login like DebianDog as it starts with Slim l...

There were also some interesting attempts to "doggify" or "puppify" distros other than debian. I think there was an Arch-dog out there and the Woof-CE script supported arch-puppy creation but not anymore... As for Rasbian, things are much easier as its basically more Debian than ...

Obviously you can edit/modify the DDog's mklive script. Another option is to create a squashfs with your own linux filesystem and replace the DDdog's one. If you wish to use systemd, you have to create the kernel files with systemd/udev present before (by editing the mklive script or creating them w...
