Re: Would you be OK with VoidPup64's kernel being updated to 6.6, and VoidPup32's to 6.1?

I have used 6.1 for awhile now on some of my non-puppy systems. I haven't had any trouble, it seems to be a fine kernel to me.

Re: VoidPup32 and VoidPup64 Discussion

Hi! Thank you for working on voidpup, it is one of my favorite pups to use right now. I downloaded a current VoidPup32 a couple days ago and I am trying it out on an old 32-bit netbook right now. It runs very well! But I did have one problem: there were no CA certificates installed, so things like ...

Re: Vanilla Upup 22.04.61

one big reason i like ppm is its so much easier to make pet files than deb files or whatever other files. maybe pet files are not needed and we can just use targz files that extract over /. since that is mainly what pet files are anyway. but i like that it is very easy to one-click a pet file and ...

Re: Should VoidPup run void's runit services?

Curious Is this a replacement for PUP's current INIT or is this an implementation which follows INIT subsequent to boot? runit has init and service management split up so that you can have either one without the other. So in theory one COULD replace current INIT with runit. and I think maybe that ...

Re: Should VoidPup run void's runit services?

So the way it works is basically you run runsvdir on a service directory, and then runsvdir will use runsv on each of the folders inside that. the sv command is used for stop/start/restarting like "sv stop <name>" "sv restart <name>" etc. You can see this page for how it's recommended to use runit ...

xdg-desktop-portal - the way of the future for flatpaks/appimages?

There is apparently a thing called xdg-desktop-portal. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal offers a way for Flatpak applications to integrate with the desktop. It can allow applications to open URL's, share your screen and more. Depending on the implementation for ...

Should VoidPup run void's runit services?

VoidLinux uses runit for its init system and service manager. But something that is nice about runit is that you dont have to use it for both of those things! You can use it as just a service manager without any of the init system stuff. We could make VoidPup launch the service management part ...

So this custom version of mesa should not be necessary for newer voidpup32 builds :D

Re: Q. best file system types, partitions and hardware for compiling

i agree with SSD for compiling. compilers like to have fast fast random file access to lots of tiny little files, and that's just what an SSD is great at! spinning disks are ok with few big files, but slow down trying to read and write lots of small files randomly. ext4 is tried and true! don't ...

VoidPup32 mesa with llvmpipe (fast software rendering)

So if you're on a system without a working graphics driver, you fall back to software rendering. void linux's 32-bit mesa package doesn't have llvmpipe due to a packaging error (they forgot to turn a flag on for i686), so you're stuck with softpipe out of the box which is extremely slow. VoidPup64 ...
