Spot is failing to work in Bionicpup64 8.0 (Solved)

Bionicpup64 8.0 Simply trying to use ``run-as-spot``, or ``su spot`` does not work as it exits due to permission being denied. Both for ash, and sh. Even executing browsers via their menu entry does not work, as they can write to places outside /home/spot. The flags for puppy are ``pfix=nocopy ...

Re: Help requested regarding dual booting

You cannot use character devices in GRUB. Rather GRUB presents two options: a) select the partition to used as 'root' (that is initial) via UUID b) use its own naming convention such as (hd0,msdos1) etc etc. I prefer searching by UUID as its easier. search --no-floppy --set=root --fs-uuid 9E3E-7F1C ...

Re: Partitioning.

A full installation only uses one partition, although depending on the system you may need to place some files in another partition. (UEFI requires booting via efi binaries and looks for a FAT partition with an esp flag). If puppy finds that your RAM is too little it will advise you to create a swap ...

Re: Can exec.svg entries be deleted with no harm?

Your answer: the exec icons do not necessarily mean they're useless. They can refer to executables (e.g bash), or binary data that file could not match a pattern to. So do not simply DELETE files with such icons. boot.catalog is a windows thing it appears, and serves as a checksum (?). isolinux.bin ...

Booting in RAM mode also works! Although the GParted version present by default then would be the built-in which is possibly bugged. (Particularly resizing fat32 partitions may give a nasty surprise when you transfer it to a Windows installation for access)

Re: Which Puppy Derivative Has The Latest Bleeding Edge Repo Packages? (Emacs 27.2, etc)

Upon looking at mentioned location, it seems NOT to be executables. They're rather text files that list files from that packages. So no, do not symlink. And when it comes to libraries you shouldn't symlink so.5 to so.4 (possible version mistmatch). However, you might find where its been placed at by ...

There should be an option by right clicking on the page and selecting 'Save as' or something along that line. There will be a option in the following GTK dialog as to how it will be saved. You can either choose 'Webpage, Complete' or just the page itself.

You can always open an issue, but I think it would be better to simply add into init an option to adjust wait time, otherwise use the default. (e.g 'wait=10', default is 3 seconds.)

Re: Pristine boot - How to mount an existing SAVE-session?

If you really want to it should work like this. Mount your savefile at /initrd/pup_rw (create or put where ever else you want, just not in a place that the savefile has a record of. Don't put it in /root) Then issue mount -o remount -o prepend:/initrd/pup_rw / This will cause all files of the ...

You could try unloading the relevant modules (don't do this for your integrated graphics) and you can invoke 'xorgwizard' at the terminal to configure video. As well nomodeset is a way to prevent the kernel from defining the resolution at start up.

Well yes, but the devx contains everything needed! Usually its just a simple ./configure or 'make'! But sometimes people like to use things besides the typical ./configure. Workaround for 'GParted renders FAT32 partition unreadable to Windows'

Bionicpup64 8.0 comes with a GParted/parted version that has a known regression. When resizing a FAT32 partition it will use psuedo-random data to write to the bootcode. However since Windows only looks for a specific pattern it won't read the said partition and claim it requires formatting. This ...

Re: CPU Frequency Scaling Tool does not preserve governor

The governors work as intended, it is the fact that they don't persist across boots that is my issue. And schedutil is useless on ck's kernel as it's meant for a different scheduler, not MuQSS scheduler, and thereby sends it up to the max. And does a modern celeron count as in i5?
