Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

My mistake. As TerryH has proved, puppy offers to create savefile on that iso9660 (puppy shows it as sdb2 vfat partition) and it says it is creating the savefile (0 bytes in size) but obviously nothing happens. I will talk to my wife about spanking me, hard. There is still the problem of slow ...

Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

You can DEFINITELY burn a puppy iso to USB flash (iso9660) and and save changes to it. When I look at the drive in gparted it shows it as format iso9660. When I look at it after creating a savefile I can see the pupsave.2fs in there. Somehow puppy is able to create this mini filesystem inside the i ...

Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

Sure. I'm in Linux mint. I download fossadog64.iso. I used mkusb to burn iso to USB flash drive. I boot the flash drive. When I logout>shut down I'm asked if I want to create a savefile. I choose yes. So far this is EXACTLY the way puppy works. Now here is the difference between puppy and dog. When ...

Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

My experience with puppy is it runs fine with savefile even on fat32. It will freak out and start hanging if the savefile is not on the same partition as your home folder (initrd).

Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

So what I did this time was format USB with two partitions. First fat32, second ext2. I extracted the fossadog64 and copied folders: EFI, boot, casper and grub.cfg to the fat32 partition. I booted the USB drive uefi and again, everything was good and fast. I made some small changes and shut down ...

Re: Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

You cannot boot from an iso and create a savefile because iso is always mounted read only. You can not create a savefolder because the partition must be ext and the iso is of course iso9660.

Frugal install of Fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive slowww when using savefile

I did a frugal install of fossadog64 on fat32 flash drive. It works fine until i use my savefile. Now it runs really really slowww. Menus are extremely slow and browser pretty slow and useless. Dont load the savefile and everything is fast again. You might ask why fat32? Becuase i can boot uefi that ...

Re: Bionicdog64 not creating savefile [SOLVED]

Would the menu.lst reside in / or fossa_dog/ or /fossu_dog/casper/ Also if this was on a USB flash rather than a hard drive would "root (hd0,0)" need to be substituted with "root (uuid=abc123whatever)" of the flash partition so it could be plugged into more than one pc (making it truly portable)?

Re: How to add "Trash" for root in Bionicdog?

Thank you I have it working now. First you must enable move to trash instead of delete. Then you must (I think) move a file to the trash (which will generate ~/.local/Trash, then you must install gvfs. I don't personally use the trash feature but I feel better if kids do. That way I can review ...

Re: How to add "Trash" for root in Bionicdog?

I think what I better do is find a way to turn off auto login and log in as puppy rather than root. If I use the pulldown menu on pcmanfm and choose Go>Trash I get a error message "operation not supported".

Push comes to shove I guess I could create a custom command on the pulldown menu.

Thanks. I type slow and you got your response in before my eIaborated reply. I do really like the idea of converting waterfox into a sfs module and running in ram. I have 8gb. I imagine I just take the waterfox directory and run dir2sfs then move that to /Casper/ correct? Then I can delete the ...

Re: How to convert a directory to a sfs module?

I scoured the internet and saw many mentions of dir2sfs. I'm not sure if it's included with bionicdog64 There are some module tools but I don't think they are quite the same as dir2sfs. I will check the .desktop files when I get a chance. I finally found a download for it but haven't tried ...

Re: How to use Brother printers in Bionicpup?

Go to the brother website. Search the driver and download section for your model. Read the section about pre application procedures and download the brother installer in .Deb format. The printer drivers (at least for mine) only came in 32 bit version. They don't make that clear so if you're running ...

Hey guys, I'm learning all kinds of stuff from this forum! I'm currently running bionicdog64 frugal install on usb flash drive. Works pretty good. Thanks but I set up the links exactly like yours but no go. Are you using fossapup64? I might have to look for a different distro. I can't deal with gimp or mt paint. They just aren't intuitive and don't work the way they should. Seems lazpaint worked ok so I will try that before giving up the pup.
