Re: Update Hiawatha to v10.12 for woof-CE Builds

It's a do-ocracy, and it goes both ways. People contribute when they want to, but they don't have to address a user request when they don't want to or have something more important to do.

I certainly can do that, but I have no use for this package (always excluded from my builds) and prefer not to maintain a petbuild.

Re: dpup OS 1 Rolling

Build 53 now uses efilinux and a standard Puppy vmlinuz. The kernel command-line is configurable via efilinux.cfg.

Re: When trying to browse to /proc file manager freezes

This bug is fixed in the woof-CE fork of ROX-Filer, https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/r ... ee728d5f2e.

This will get fixed in Fossapup64 if it ever gets rebuilt with latest woof-CE.

Thanks @Clarity, I appreciate the feedback but GRUB/UEFI/Samba/etc' related issues are not the focus here, only graphics-related stuff that might be affected by the use of Xwayland.

You'll need to modify /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit - remove the create_zram_swap call.

That's interesting @LateAdopter. I thought Firefox said it was using VA API, and a 4K 60 FPS video indeed took %3 CPU. Maybe Firefox has that workaround in place.

Re: dpup OS 1 Rolling

I might change the UEFI boot process in the future: use https://github.com/mfleming/efilinux as the boot loader, so the kernel command-line is in a text file, and put the kernel alongside the boot loader. That would allow change of the command-line without having to recompile anything. I got it work...

Re: dpup OS 1 Rolling

TerryH Thanks for the extra testing! Great to know UEFI boot works on yet another machine. bootx64.efi is the kernel, and it has a hardcoded kernel command-line. It's built with the kernel's "EFI stub" feature, so the kernel image itself (vmlinuz, bzImage, whatever you call it) is the EFI...

Looks like downgrading the kernel to latest 5.4.x doesn't change anything on the Dell Vostro 14 5490. Still the same black screen issue @01micko is seeing on Dell Latitude E7270, and the errors are identical.

Re: woof-CE Fails to build Fossapup64 Devx

Bionic64 is old, and its mksquashfs is old enough not to have zstd compression support. Just change SFSCOMP in _00build.conf to something that works, or use a newer Puppy to run woof-CE. Alternatively, you can build Puppy directly on GitHub.

I hope it's a race condition between Cage's death and xwin that happens only on fast or slow machines, so I prefer to test on this new Dell first and hope I'll reproduce the shutdown issue too.
