Re: Are there any distros with chrome based browser preinstalled?
It appears now that there is no such thing. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I made an ISO of WeeDog64-Void with Chromium installed. But it was not up to standards yet as I was just figuring out how to do it in the first place so the ISO could be burned to CD/DVD or directly extracted and copied to ...

Re: (Hardware) Suggestions for video editing on a budget?
now that OpenShot is running, I was wondering what happened to the zoom effect. It seems some of the video effect choices are missing compared to version 1.4.3. Is there way to add them? Or were they removed by the developers?

@mikewalsh
I downloaded and installed the openshot sfs and it started right away! Openshot is working smoothly and so far as I can tell until I really dig into some editing, has all the components working as expected. Good stuff Mike! Thanks!

I will insert an iframe version of the BBcode soon. I just need to get the tokens for the variables in the right places and test it.

Re: Puppy Linux 8.0 not detecting Wireless
the Dell driver: e1000e is a standard so I am not sure yet what is going on. It should be in the kernel's firmware.
the boot option page is what I am talking about. it is there where you place the line net.ifnames=0
when you boot this Bionic from the CD is it working otherwise?

Re: Puppy Linux 8.0 not detecting Wireless
the kernel you are running is 4.19.23 ? What is the kernel version in the gentoo that sees the card?
How old is your machine again? Perhaps a kernel swap to an earlier kernel will have the firmware needed by your card?

Re: Puppy Linux 8.0 not detecting Wireless
when you boot from CD use F2 on the splash page to get a prompt to add a kernel parameter
this will insure that the network cards begin with the names eth0 and wlan0
this will make it easier for us to debug by using common names
then attempt the ifconfig commands again
Code: Select all
net.ifnames=0

Re: Mainline Puppy Linux Distros
I can not think seriously that a network master will integrate it at some place in his network! I do. I have had up to 8 machines on a home LAN that all are running Puppy Linux and are solid web servers exposed to the Internet. I have done this for years. Once one sees how correctly configure the w...

Re: Directories? folders? memory? storage? Proper Linux terminology
back in the 70's I first learned to program and sys-op on a PDP-11/70 which ran the operating system RSTS/E from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). Every thing was either a "file" or a "directory". A "folder" was a physical thing where you kept papers. First time I he...

Re: Should How To section have sub sections?
I am leaning towards having sub sections in the How To. It seems logical from an organizational stand point. It could be helpful to narrow down searches for a particular type of How To set of instructions or methods. Like in a library the way the books are indexed and sorted in a way. Lets make a li...

I like the new logo as well, since I know a some pup's with few teeth and the tongue hanging out, mostly always. But if the old logo feels more positive lets give it a try. I can always change it.

TO REMIND EVERYONE.....I set this forum up WHILE the John Murga forum was in full operation. To differentiate I used a logo less well known. At that time I was given some bad press and grief. I also heard from the cheap seats that I couldn't use the "real" logo. I can change it any time I ...

Re: Real time Kernels for FD810?
File servers and web servers actually run best not using RT kernels. I use 4.19.82-rt30 in several Bionic64-CE's with success but I could use a newer low latency kernel just as well. I do get really good performance on one particular machine with this combo, with very low CPU usage especially at idl...

You can check out the various real time kernels I've complied that are tested and work.

I am working on a 5.6.X real time kernel but so far I am reaching kernel panic during the boot process, so so refinement needed.

Yes, I should have added the detail that it will be named differently! My bad. Since it is not for Fossa Focal but is for Xenial use : pkg repo-list to list out the available repos and the proper name of xenial-alexlarsson should appear. So the commands would be pkg add-repo xenial-alexlarsson pkg a...

Re: Kernel Compiling - Kernel-kit
The kernel kit is really an important tool. I've been able to produce some real time kernels for Puppy's fairly easily with it. Including the patching process. So some pretty advanced stuff made accessible!
